Determined AC Milan Could Win First Serie A in Eleven Years as Title Race Is Thrown Open

It’s been eleven years since AC Milan last won the Serie A. In 2010/11, they finished first on the table with 82 points from 38 games. But ever since, Juventus won it nine consecutive times before Inter Milan ended their streak in 2020/21. But maybe it’s time for AC Milan to lay their hands on the trophy again, as they seem fully prepared.

Giroud-inspired AC Milan Could Go All the Way to the Top

AC Milan were level on points with Napoli prior to their match on Sunday but with an inferior goal difference. That match was a very crucial one in deciding the title race- and AC Milan understood its importance. They put up a good fight to secure all three points away from home. Olivier Giroud scored the only goal of the game four minutes into the second half, with the assist provided by Davide Calabria.

After the game, AC Milan moved from third to first on the Serie A table. However, second-placed Inter Milan have a game in hand, meaning they will be back to first place if they win the game. As it stands, AC Milan have 60 points from 28 games and a goal difference of 25. Also, they have recorded more wins than any other team in the league (18). They seem ready for battle- and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they are crowned Serie A champions at the end of the season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was a part of the AC Milan squad that won the Serie A in 2011. He could lift the trophy for the second time with the club if things go according to plan. The club seems revitalized and new signing Olivier Giroud has impressed since joining in the summer of 2021. He has been the team’s big-game player so far, scoring against Inter Milan, Roma, Lazio and Napoli. Altogether, he has scored eight league goals in 19 appearances.
