Axel Tuanzebe Set To Join Napoli On Loan

Uncertainty at Villa?

It is understood that Tuanzebe received a “lack of assurance” from Villa boss Steven Gerrard in relation to game time at Villa. Rangnick and Manchester United were happy to listen to offers in Europe for the 24 year old defender and Napoli are in pole position to sign him until the end of the season. Tuanzebe is an academy graduate from Manchester United and is rated highly at Old Trafford. Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he was not given a consistent run at the side which surprised United fans as he impressed whenever he was given the opportunity. Against PSG in Paris, Tuanzebe shined with a solid performance and kept the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe quiet. It was expected he would be rewarded with tht performace with a run in the side however this was not meant to be for Tuanzebe as he started as he was involved in only 9 league games last season. Tuanzebe returned to Villa on a season-long loan in the summer, with him previously enjoying a loan spell in the 2018/19 season with 28 appearances for Villa in the Championship. Dean Smith was clearly a fan of Tuanzebe, hence Villa signing him in the summer. He has only featured for Villa 9 times this season, with Gerrard leaving him out of the squad against Brentford.

Is Napoli A Good Move?

Rangnick is understood to be willing to loan Tuanzebe out to clubs in Europe , with Napoli emerging as the favourites. Will moving to the Serie A improve his game? Fikayo Tomori moved to AC Milan from Chelsea last season in January and earned a recall to the English National Team. Tomori is a regular starter for AC Milan and has proved versatility as he he has been deployed in a back three and a back 4. Moving to Italy was the perfect move for Tomori as he has received regular game time and it is clear he has improved technically as a central defender. Tuanzebe and United fans will hope this loan move will provide a similar result for him as he will have ambitions to play for Manchester United. At the age of 24, it feels that timing is crucial for Tuanzebe to perform consistently at the highest level.
