The 2021-22 Carabao Cup fourth-round draw will bring West Ham United up against Manchester opposition once more after they inflicted an early exit on Manchester United. Liverpool are also in round four whilst Chelsea and Tottenham both advanced after penalty shootouts.
Of the 16 teams remaining in the Carabao Cup, 15 of them are in the Premier League or EFL Championship. League One club Sunderland is the last remaining team outside the top two divisions of English football.
Here are the eight match-ups we’ll see for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Carabao Cup fourth round matches
Chelsea vs. Southampton
The reigning European champions Chelsea will be able to welcome Southampton to Stamford Bridge in the Carabao Cup round of 16. The two sides are set to meet in the Premier League on October 2nd first for a little preview of the knockout matchup. The Blues and Saints drew both EPL matches in the 2020-21 season.
Arsenal vs. Leeds United
The fans at the Emirates Stadium will be excited for an interesting clash between Arsenal and Leeds United. The Gunners had an easy road to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a 3-0 win against Wimbledon on Wednesday 22nd September. Leeds’ third-round match in London was a struggle with a penalty shootout win over Fulham keeping Marcelo Bielsa’s side alive.
Stoke City vs. Brentford
An underdog will get to the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup with Stoke City welcoming newly-promoted EPL side Brentford to the bet365 Stadium. The Potters won a key match at Premier League club Watford 3-1 while Brentford dominated at home against Oldham in a 7-0 thrashing. This late-October matchup could be a highlight in both club’s seasons.
West Ham United vs. Manchester City
The headline match of the fourth round will be at London Stadium with West Ham taking on Carabao Cup holders Manchester City. David Moyes’ Hammers team took down Manchester United at Old Trafford and can now eliminate the blue half of Manchester. The Citizens have not lost a match in this competition in five years.

Leicester City vs. Brighton & Hove Albion
An all-blue Premier League game at the King Power Stadium was drawn by Harry Redknapp and Micah Richards with Leicester City set to face Brighton. This is the second consecutive season these clubs were drawn against each other in a cup competition. Leicester defeated Brighton 1-0 at home in the FA Cup fifth-round proper.
Burnley vs. Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs fans will feel confident when the squad heads to Turf Moor to meet Burnley. The Carabao Cup title would quench the thirst of Tottenham’s long journey towards finally winning a trophy. The London club hasn’t lost to Burnley since 2019.
Queens Park Rangers vs. Sunderland
Sunderland, the lowest-tiered club in the Carabao Cup, will travel to London and face QPR at Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium. The Black Cats of League One have won all three of its Carabao Cup matches on the road and will have to do so again to continue its journey. QPR hasn’t played Sunderland since 2018.
Preston North End vs. Liverpool
The most lopsided match of the fourth round will be at Deepdale Stadium when Liverpool travel to Championship club Preston North End. The two clubs met regularly in the first half of the 20th century but haven’t played many games recently. The last match between Liverpool and Preston was in the 2009 FA Cup, a 2-0 win for the Reds with goals from Albert Riera and Fernando Torres.
