Denis Zakaria Linked with Manchester United
Rangnick Looks To Strengthen Midfield
Zakaria plays in the Bundesliga for Borussia Monchengladbach and the fact he plays in Germany could be a factor why Rangnick is a big fan. This is due to the fact he is more accustomed to the style of football Rangnick wants to implement at United. It is also an area where United need to strengthen in as the current set-up is not sustainable. Nemanja Matic is the best defensive midfielder at the club but time is not on his side and neither Fred or Scott Mctominay are unable to play the holding role in midfield, on their own. They play in a double pivot, and this works to an extent and in certain games it has worked for United but this is not sustainable if United want to compete with the best in Europe. When you look at any of the top sides, they all have strong technical players in the midfield. Zakaria is a free agent in the summer but United are heading into a crucial phase of the season, where they need to ensure they are picking up 3 points week in week out to secure a place in the top four. A huge round of 16 clash with Athletico Madrid in February is also on the horizon for Rangnick’s reds. It is imperative the club try to improve by making necessary signings this window. Rangnick will be keen to impress his employers up until the end of the season as his contract as interim manager is due to expire. If he has any hopes of becoming permanent manager, it feels that a comfortable top four finish and a piece of silverware is what will be required. In order to be successful, he will need players to adapt to his system and adhere to his coaching methods, Zakaria could be the one who triggers any potential success for Rangnick.
