Diego Costa Strike sends Morocco Home But Iran Still Have a Chance Despite 1-0 Loss

Diego Costa made it three in two after scoring in the second half against Iran. This result means Morocco will be going home after their 1-0 loss against Portugal earlier today. Iran thought they had got a point only until VAR ruled out the goal.

Diego Costa makes it Three goals in Two Games

The Spaniard helped Spain get back in the game against Portugal last Friday. Once again was the difference for Iran. Diego Costa scored his third goal of the tournament after a bit of fortune.  The 29-year-old received the ball inside the box before swiveling to unleash his shot. The ball comes off the Iran defender back off Costa’s knee and past the Iran goalkeeper. It separated the two sides despite Spain struggling to break down Iran defense in the first half.

VAR Rules out Historic Goal For Iran

The response from Iran after going 1-0 down was impressive and nearly pulled one back. Only for VAR to rule out the goal, and yes there did get it right this time. Saeid Ezatolah had the ball in the back of the net after a scramble inside the box. The whole Iran team thought they had drawn level and went crazy near their fans. But the referee ruins the party after ruling the goal out for offside which was the correct decision. Over the past couple of days, VAR has been the headline of the World Cup after the wrong decision. However, tonight the decision was correct.

Morocco Go Home

Morocco was the team that could have surprised a few and it looked like they could off nicked second place from Portugal. However, it did not go to plan after Iran scored a late goal in the dying seconds which Iran recorded a historic win. Then it was made even harder after Cristiano Ronaldo thrashed a header home in the 4th minute. This was all but secured Morocco exit from the World Cup and tonight’s result puts the nail in the coffin. Although, Iran could still advance into the knockout stages if they beat Spain and Morocco can overcome Portugal.
