Manchester United have been overshadowed by their neighbouring rivals since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson. But it looks like they have finally closed the gap over their derby rivals as well as the other Premier League giants in over a decade.
Yes, it has taken plenty of money as well as multiple managers to finally get where they are now. But since Sir Alex left, the United squad have never looked so promising as well as threatening. And the former Red, Dimitar Berbatov also feels the same when he pitched his opinion that the Red Devils can compete for the title in 2021/22.
Manchester United Can Fight For the League Title
Dimitar Berbatov Has High Hopes For This United Side
The two-time Premier League winner was a famous person during his Old Trafford days. Although his stay lasted only four years, he had made a sensational impact thanks to his unique playing style. As exquisite and calm he was on the pitch, it was his flawless touch and ball control that awe-struck everyone.
Having inherited the Red Devil’s DNA, the Bulgarian striker knows what is required for the team to succeed. And 10 years since his departure, the Iceman has spoken about the current United squad.
Dimitar Berbatov told via Betfair that: “Manchester United are in a strong position to challenge for the title, especially after the signings they’ve made this summer. I am very happy that they are bringing in Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. He is a World Cup and Champions League winner, he has a winning mentality and he has played with the best over the years.
“We already know about [Sancho’s] quality, but there’s still plenty of room for him to grow and hopefully at United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, he can fulfil his potential. I’m sure he is also going to push the other forwards to perform better too.”
Manchester United’s Preparation For The Upcoming Season
The Red Devils have in fact produced their best ever transfer deals in a long time. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had made his intentions clear from the time he joined as an interim manager. Two years later, United finally landed their much-awaited target, Jadon Sancho. His arrival has given the club much-needed strengthening. A proper winger’s contribution will help the strikers produce more goals.
Raphael Varane who is rumoured to be unveiled on 11th August became United’s second and the most reasonable signing. Manchester United landed a four-time Champions League defender for just £41 million. His addition will definitely bolster the defence. We witnessed how good Harry Maguire was with the presence of a formidable partner in Euro 2020. Varane, with his experience, can be a deadly pairing alongside the Englishman.
These two signings have covered the major problems of the club for the upcoming season. Hence, there is potential for the first Premier League title in 10 years for the Red Devils. So far, United have performed really well in the pre-season friendlies. We were able to witness a glimpse of the season’s potential squad when United thrashed Everton 4-0 in the final match. However, their only drawback will be the absence of Marcus Rashford. The pacy winger underwent shoulder surgery and will return only in October.
