Julian Alvarez is one of the brightest prospects in South America and he is nearing a towering move with Manchester City closing in on a deal for the 21-year-old Argentinian. According to the journalist Hernan Castillo, River Plate are preparing for his departure and have already lined up Ezequiel Barco to replace him.

South America is the home of football talents. Over the years, we have witnessed abundant skilful players get into the European leagues and dominate there. Thanks to their etiquette, we will never fall short of football sensations.

One such player is Julian Alvarez who has recently entered the radar of many big clubs. He was linked with clubs like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United earlier, however, it looks like the Etihad Stadium is going to be his new destination.

Manchester City Closing in on the Talented Youngster

City Signing First Striker Since Sergio Aguero’s Departure

Julian Alvarez started his journey at Argentine club, River Plate. His youth performances earned him a promotion to the first team just two years later. Although he occasionally appeared for the first team, he showed glimpses of what he was capable of.

He finally got the chance to showcase his talent consistently and delivered an explosive season in 2021. This is what further attracted the European giants to pursue him. Since making his professional debut, Alvarez has recorded 36 goals and 25 assists in just 96 appearances other than winning his club trophies.

The 21-year-old forward is currently on a contract until December 2022. However, it is said to have a release clause in the region of £15million to £17 million. According to the reports, City are very close and it is only a matter of time before the deal is finalised. Another journalist, Juan Cortese states that whilst the deal is firm, Alvarez will likely stay at River Plate until June or till the completion of the season, which is in October.

An Addition of the Utmost Requirement

Manchester City were never really worried about the strikers. They had the staggering Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus who delivered constantly. And their injury-prone performances did not trouble City to consider another striker. However, things are very different now.

Sergio Aguero left City after his contract ran out in summer 2021. Jesus is the only one available who is rarely used. Pep Guardiola has been playing the majority of the fixtures without a proper striker. And it makes one wonder if they really need one.

They had attempted to sign some prolific names at the start of the season. However, that failed to transpire. They are also heavily linked with a move for Erling Haaland. But the chances of signing him is unknown because of the clubs interested in him. So Alvarez seems to be the perfect fit at the moment.

Manchester City have always been dominant under Per Guardiola. But a season with strong oppositions and no strikers showcases what a deadly team he has nurtured. With 22 matches played so far in the Premier League, City have built a healthy gap of 11-points with the title already in sight. And with the addition of a striker, City will become a dominant force in Europe.
