Sergio Ramos, the five-time La Liga winner is exactly who Manchester City needs to win the elusive Champions League. With four Champions League titles to his name, the moment is not too big for him. The winning mentality could affect other Manchester City players positively.
Sergio Ramos Could Be Key for Manchester City in Winning the Champions League
Ramos Mentality Could Be Game Changer
The biggest concern about Sergio Ramos is if he stays fit throughout the season. Clearly, Real Madrid moved on from him because he could not stay fit. At Manchester City, he would provide more toughness to his centre-back teammates. Ruben Dias.
Dias just had a sensational season and won FWA Footballer of the Year. Dias isn’t a vocal leader. Whereas, Ramos will confront his teammate when a mistake is made and explain what he did wrong. Last season, anytime the defence made a good play teammate would high five to congratulate them. However, when a mistake led to a goal the body language was apparent. For example, when John Stones‘ miscue led to a goal he would put his head down and look depressed. It should be noted Ramos would not dwell on a mistake and instead move on. Along with, getting in a teammates face after a mistake and explaining how to prevent it from happening again.Â
Ramos Sensational Real Madrid Career
Ramos has one of the most impressive resumes of all time. It includes one World Cup, four Champions Leagues, five La Liga titles, and four-time FIFA Club World Cups. Quite possibly the biggest goal in Champions League history was a header from Sergio Ramos in the 93rd minute in the 2014 Champions League Final against archrivals Atletico Madrid.
Real Madrid carried the momentum into extra time winning 4-1. Without a doubt, 16 years at one club is a rarity and shows how great he was over that time. The 35-year old totalled 109 goals in his career. Absolutely sensational considering his main responsibility is to defend and prevent goals. Always scored when it mattered the most in the Champions League. His best Champions League campaign came during the 2013-14 season and has been named La Liga Defender of the Year on five occasions.Â
Other Clubs Interested in Sergio Ramos
Manchester United and Paris-Saint Germain are other teams rumoured to be looking to obtain Ramos. The Red Devils look like the Spaniard’s most likely destination at this moment of time with their need for a centre-back. A perfect pairing alongside Harry Maguire. If there is one concern, it is Ramos and Maguire’s injuries last season. Instead of getting draws, Manchester United could be getting wins.
However, the prospect of playing alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe is something every player must want alongside the persuasion of former teammate Keylor Navas, PSG could be a very tempting proposition for the Spanish international who was left out for the re-arranged European Championships.Â
