Manchester United Face Arsenal in High Anticipated Clash
Too Early For Rangnick?
While Rangnick’s appointment was officially announced by the club on Monday morning, it is yet to be confirmed if he will be in the dugout for the game due to him obtaining his work permit. However, United have been good under Michael Carrick and it is certainly not a disadvantage if he is in charge of the team on Thursday night. In the last two games, Carrick has picked and deployed tactics based on the opposition and the same cannot be said of Solskjaer who usually picked the same team week in week out. A more aggressive approach is expected against Arsenal from the United fans naturally after the defensive display away from home against Chelsea.
Cristiano Ronaldo to Start?
Eyebrows were raised when Ronaldo was dropped to the bench last week, but it is extremely unlikely he will be sitting on the bench again. United must play on the front foot and get at the unexperienced defence of Arsenal who have performed reasonably well for Arsenal this season. However, the impact and experience of Ronaldo could be overwhelming for this defence, and it will be difficult for them to restrict him. Jadon Sancho will be full of confidence after his two goals for United last week. He has looked comfortable on the right which is his preferred position and United fans will hope he now asserts his authority and makes himself a definite starter on the right flank.
Maguire to Return?
Eric Baily and Victor Lindelof had a good game at Stamford Bridge last week and were relatively comfortable. Lindelof is likely to start but it will be interesting who his partner is. Maguire’s performances this season have been below par and his confidence will also be low. To put him back into the firing lane could work against United and that will be detrimental for Maguire also. It may be a smart move to start Baily who was assuring against Chelsea. United were under the cosh and he was very composed when making clearances. He did not show any sings of being erratic which fans normally expect from him. United should have more possession in this game so technically, it will be a less difficult game for the United defence than the Chelsea fixture.
