Newcastle United Set to Sign Kieran Trippier From Atletico Madrid

Newcastle United are said to have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid to sign Kieran Trippier as per Sky Sports. The Premier League club were recently taken over by the Saudi Consortium, making them the richest club in football history.

The takeover shaped new hopes and the January transfer window became the perfect field for them to start their new journey. It is well aware of the role money plays in football. Manchester City and PSG can be taken as prime examples of that. This takeover also gave the same vibes and the exact can be expected in their first transfer window under the new ownership.

Newcastle United are set to challenge for titles soon. But in order for that to happen, they must survive the Premier League this season. As things stand, the Magpies’ state is not promising. With just 11 points in 19 fixtures, the relegation-threatened team sit only a point above Norwich City at the bottom of the table.

Newcastle United Begin Their Makeover

Everyone was prepared with the fact that Newcastle were going to be heavy spenders after the takeover. And it looks like the initial process has already begun. Newcastle United are close to completing the deal of their first signing.

A Manchester City graduate, Kieran Trippier spent most of his time on loan spells before joining Burnley in 2012. His astonishing spell there earned him a move to Tottenham Hotspur in 2015, which helped him move to Spain as he joined Colchoneros in 2019. Tripper has been a world-class full-back and a crucial member of Diego Simeone’s side.

While the La Liga giants did not want to part ways with the 31-year-old right-back, he preferred returning back to England. Newcastle took this opportunity to their advantage and agreed with Atletico Madrid to a deal of £12 million-plus add-ons to sign Kieran Trippier on 4th January.

The Magpies’ current manager, Eddie Howe worked with the Englishman while in charge of Burnley. So getting along will never be a problem. As per the reports from Sky Sports, the right-back is set to undergo his medicals soon. After which he will be penning down a two-and-a-half-year contract with an option to extend it by another year.

More Deals to Come Through for the Magpies?

If you thought that Newcastle would settle for just Kieran Trippier, you are absolutely wrong. We are well aware of the situation they are currently in the Premier League. While this might temporarily stop them from grasping high-profile targets, it won’t stop them from strengthening their squad.

The right-back’s addition will reinforce the squad immeasurably. His role will be pivotal in them surviving relegation. However, they will need a few more to make that a certainty. As per the rumours, this is only the first out of their four expected recruitments in the winter transfer window.

Although they have no shortage of money, it might take more than just that to convince players to join the club in their current state. The club would turn to alternatives and look for loan deals until they stabilise the ship. But one thing that can be confirmed is that there will be more than one arrival at St. James Park in January.
