Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Wanted By Several Big Clubs

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hasn’t played much football recently. However, that hasn’t reduced the interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe. PSG, Juventus, AC Milan, Seville and Marseille have all enquired over his availability.

Problems At Arsenal

Aubameyang signed a new contract with Arsenal in 2020. Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, convinced the striker to stay with the London club, insisting that he would play a large part in the club’s future. Looking back at that decision, Aubameyang’s renewal may not have been the right move.

Last season, Aubameyang scored just ten league goals for Arsenal in 29 games. As club captain and the main striker for Arsenal, you’d expect him to contribute much more to the club. The lack of goals resulted in an eight place finish for the Gunners last season. Aubameyang’s current Premier League campaign hasn’t been any better either. The Gabonese forward has scored four league goals in 14 games. He was also stripped off his captaincy in December 2021 after a disciplinary breach.

Arteta has felt that the need to call up many academy players to provide any threat in terms of attack. Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka are just a couple of examples of players who have stepped up. It seems Arteta will be looking to build a younger squad and Aubameyang doesn’t seem to be in his plans.

Will He Leave Arsenal This January?

Aubameyang recently left the club to represent Gabon in the African Cup of Nations. However, the 32-year-old tested positive for covid-19 and wasn’t able to play for his country. It was reported that Aubameyang suffered from heart lesions. However, he has thankfully recovered and confirmed that he is now “completely healthy”

This means he could be ready to make a move this month after all. Many of the clubs who have enquired for him are currently facing issues in attack. The biggest one being PSG’s. French forward, Kylian Mbappe, looks more and more likely to be leaving the French giants soon. Aubameyang could be a potential short-term replacement. Arsenal have also shown interest in Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo and could include Aubameyang as part of a swap deal.

The Arsenal striker has also been linked with a loan move to Al Nassr recently. Reports suggest Al Nassr’s loan offer would include an obligation to buy. Arsenal are willing to listen to offers for the forward this January and with several clubs linked, it looks like the striker could be set to leave the Premier League.
