Victor Osimhen is, without a doubt, one of Africa’s most sought-after players. The 23-year old began his senior professional career with Wolfsburg before he was later loaned to Charleroi. He joined Ligue 1 club Lille in 2019 where he scored 13 league goals in 27 appearances- and by the following year, he moved to Italy to join Serie A club Napoli, making him one of the most expensive African signings ever. Ever since joining Napoli, Osimhen has scored 15 league goals in 37 appearances and has put up some exceptional performances. So it is no surprise that he has attracted interest from a number of clubs.
Napoli Striker Victor Osimhen Could Be on His Way to the Premier League
Emirates Stadium or St. James’ Park, Where Will Victor Osimhen’s Final Destination Be?
Premier League clubs Arsenal and Newcastle are both interested in signing Osimhen but according to The Sun, Arsenal are more likely to land the Nigerian striker, as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen the team’s attack. Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic was originally Arsenal’s target but Juventus beat them to the signing of the 21-year old Fiorentina star. Now Arsenal are focused on bringing Osimhen to North London, as that seems to be their best option at the moment.
Newcastle, who have also been busy in the transfer window, signing players like Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood as they look to strengthen their squad, are also eager to lure the Nigerian striker to St. James’ Park. They sit 18th on the Premier League table with 15 points from 21 games and manager Eddie Howe hopes Osimhen will be valuable to them as they battle to escape relegation.
Arsenal have also reportedly shown interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Raul de Tomas, Luka Jovic and Alexander Isak, however, the Napoli striker appears to be their priority. So it is a battle for Osimhen between two Premier League clubs- one hoping to finish in the top four and the other hoping to finish above the relegation zone.
