Ralf Rangnick starts with a win as his side beat Crystal Palace at home 1-0. The score line flattered Palace as Manchester United dominated the game and were unlucky to not win by a greater margin.
Ralf Rangnick Starts With A Win
Electric Start
United started the game at a high tempo and were brilliant in the first half hour. The 4-2-2-2 formation allowed Alex Telles and Diogo Dalot to push forward. Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho occupied the two number 10 positions in the formation while Fred and Mctominay played as two 6s. Ronaldo lead the line alongside Rashford in a front two. Fernandes and Sancho pressed high with the front two and applied immense pressure onto Crystal Palace. Their defenders found it difficult to play out the back and United were successful in winning the ball back in their half. The fullbacks pushed forward and enjoyed a success down the flanks. The only negative aspect of the first half was the fact that United failed to score. The players naturally tired in the second half and it was Fred who got the winner with a fantastic strike into the top corner.
United in Control
United looked in control of the game and they have not really controlled or dominated a game in a long time. A first clean sheet at Old Trafford since April was also a big positive for Rangnick. Fred and Mctominay receive a lot of stick from fans, but they were both solid on Sunday. In this system, Rangnick could get the best out of them. Anthony Elanga was brought on in the second half and Rangnick was said to be impressed by him in training. These are encouraging sings for United fans as Rangnick only carried out one training session before the match. Further coaching will improve the players and they will understand their roles in the system. Donny Van De Beek will hope he gets an opportunity in this system as he does seem like a player who could potentially thrive under Rangnick.
