Where Next For Thiago Alcantara?

The future of Thiago Alcantara has been making the headlines in recent days. Reports from Germany have suggested the Bayern Munich midfielder is set to leave the club in the coming months.

Where Next For Thiago Alcantara?

The Spanish international who’s contract runs out next summer, has been linked with a move to Liverpool among other clubs ahead of the summer transfer window. Thiago has yet to agree to a new deal with the Bavarian club while the Reds’ boss has been an admirer of the player and has previously praised his abilities.

The deep-lying playmaker has been a constant figure this season for Bayern Munich and has helped the German side win the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal with his three goals and two assists in 26 games. He also looks set to play a crucial role when the Champions League resumes in March, and the Bavarian club will go in search of a historic treble.

Despite his age and his recent injury record should he be made available for around £30 million, he would surely be considered a bargain by a host of top European clubs.

Liverpool could face familiar opposition in the battle for the Spaniard’s signature. Manchester United are said to be considering a move for the 29-year-old, allowing them the option to play their dream midfield of Thiago, Bruno Fernandes, and Paul Pogba.

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has hinted in recent days that Thiago is likely to leave Bayern in the summer, stating the club have already done their best to convince him to stay.

Liverpool have won the Premier League in remarkable fashion this season and the Reds’ first-team is perhaps at its strongest for decades. However, there has long been a perceived lack of depth in the squad. With the likes of Adam Lallana confirmed to be leaving as well, Jurgen Klopp may look to add new players to help improve his options ahead of next season.

There is no argument that Thiago has world-class abilities and would improve the Liverpool squad if the rumours are true and the two clubs can make the move a reality.
