Norway didn’t just win Group A at the 2025 Women’s Euro – they owned it.
From the moment they walked onto the pitch against Switzerland, there was a sense they’d come to make a statement. They went behind early in that opener, but no one panicked.
Ada Hegerberg got them level with a towering header that doubled as her 50th international goal, and by the time a Swiss defender turned into her own net, the comeback was complete.
Norway should’ve been out of sight. Hegerberg missed a penalty. They hit the post. But even when it got messy, there was never really any doubt.
Against Finland, it wasn’t as fluid.
Finland hit back after an own goal opener, but Caroline Graham Hansen seized control with an 84th-minute strike.
The 2-1 result put Norway through with maximum points and set up a knockout clash with Italy.
They didn’t stop there. In Thun, Norway romped past Iceland 4-3 in a roller-coaster encounter.
Signe Gaupset scored twice and helped set up two more goals, while Norway had to hold their nerve late.
Iceland’s stoppage-time penalty made it tense, but Norway held on to complete a perfect group stage with nine points.
Switzerland Dig Deep and Make History on Home Soil
Switzerland’s journey was far more emotional. Playing at home gave them a lift, but even that wasn’t enough against Norway.
Still, the crowd stayed with them, and so did the belief.
They responded by beating Iceland. And when it all came down to the final group match against Finland, the hosts looked like they were heading out. But the 94th minute arrived, and so did Riola Xhemaili.
One goal, one scream, one eruption across Geneva. Switzerland into the quarter-finals for the first time ever.
It wasn’t polished. It wasn’t perfect. But it mattered.
Finland Fight, but One Late Goal Ends Their Run
Finland might feel hard done by. They opened their tournament with a 1-0 win over Iceland that briefly made people sit up.
Katariina Kosola scored the winner, and for a moment, it looked like the momentum would carry on.
But Norway were too good, and then Switzerland were too determined. Holding a lead late in that final game and letting it slip like that – it’ll sting for a while.

Iceland Show Heart but Leave Women’s Euro With Nothing
As for Iceland, the scorelines tell the story. Three games. Three defeats. But three performances full of heart.
They were down to ten players for most of their opener against Finland and still pushed for something.
They scored three against Norway, more than anyone else in the group. But they just couldn’t keep the ball out of their own net.
What’s Next for Group A’s Top Two
So Group A belongs to Norway – confident, ruthless, relentless. But it was Switzerland who stole hearts.
The knockout stage won’t be forgiving, but they’ve already made history. And sometimes, that’s just as important.
Norway will take on Italy on Wednesday, July 16, in the first quarter-final of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Switzerland will face a tough test against world champions Spain on Friday, 18 July.
