2025 Women’s Euro: Sweden Stun Germany While Poland Make History in Group C

Sweden didn’t just top Group C – they stamped their authority at the 2025 Women’s Euro.

After a 1-0 win against Denmark, a 3-0 win over Poland in Lucerne felt decisive. They struck first through Stina Blackstenius’ header at the half-hour mark, then captain Kosovare Asllani ghosted through for the second soon after.

Lina Hurtig completed the hat trick of headers, rounding off a dominant display that confirmed quarter-final qualification for both them and Germany.

That set up the showdown with Germany in Zurich. Germany threatened early through Jule Brand, but Sweden answered swiftly – Blackstenius again, then teenager Smilla Holmberg sneaking one in before halftime.

Carlotta Wamser’s desperate handball earned her a straight red, and Fridolina Rolfo converted the penalty.

Lina Hurtig added a late fourth. It was the first time Germany had conceded four goals in a Euros match – and the first time Sweden had beaten them at the tournament.

The Swedes finished with a flawless nine points and a swagger that spoke of ambition, and will face the reigning champions, England, in the next round.

Germany Stumble but Still Stand on Tradition

Germany couldn’t match Sweden’s momentum, but their campaign still held weight.

Their opener saw a 2-0 win over Poland thanks to goals from Jule Brand and Lea Schuller.

They then edged past Denmark 2-1 despite conceding early. They entered the decider against Sweden as runners-up and came away with group qualification.

It wasn’t perfect, but Germany’s pedigree and mental toughness kept them moving forward.

The real test lies in the match ahead, a quarter-final clash against France who have proven to be mighty at this year’s tournament.

Poland Score Historic Win but Bow Out

For Poland, Euro 2025 was already a milestone – they had never qualified before.

After the tough losses to Germany and Sweden, they struck in their final match.

Natalia Padilla-Bidas opened the scoring to spark a 3-2 win over Denmark, their first ever victory (and goals) at a major tournament.

That win wasn’t about progression – both Poland and Denmark were already out – but it marked something bigger: belief and the beginning of a new era.
