Mohamed Salah’s Form Must Improve for Liverpool To Be in Contention for Titles

Mohamed Salah’s form is not quite satisfactory for Liverpool at the moment. If Salah were not to play any other match for Liverpool, he would still go down as one of the club’s legends quite comfortably.

The Egyptian has scored 248 goals in more than 400 matches for the Reds. He has also won two Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League title with them, which puts him alongside the most influential players in the club’s history.

However, at 33, Salah is not getting any younger and will have to step up his game if Liverpool are to defend their league title.

Salah’s Form In 2025/26 vs His Own High Standards

Salah has scored three goals and registered three assists in 10 matches for Liverpool, which would have been considered a pretty decent effort for any other player. However, since Salah is such a talismanic player, he is expected to rise to the occasion almost every time Liverpool get on the football pitch.

His performance in Liverpool’s defeat to Chelsea has come under a lot of scrutiny. Salah’s work rate and contribution to the team’s defensive performance were questioned.

However, in this context, one will have to consider that Salah is almost always expected to be on the receiving end of the long balls from inside their own half from counter-attacks. Hence, he cannot track back as often as other players do for the team.

Further, it is also worth considering that both Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike are new to the team’s set-up. As a result, Salah will have to take some time to get his coordination with either of those centre-forwards in place. The same is true of Florian Wirtz, Liverpool’s new No. 10, who has not yet been able to justify his signing.

Aside from Salah’s form, all the above-mentioned factors have been affecting Liverpool’s form as a team. The Reds have now lost three matches in a row, which has happened for the first time since Arne Slot took charge of the team in 2024.

There is a growing clamour about Salah’s form among Liverpool’s supporters as a result, and some are even asking for him to be benched.

Arch-Rivals Up Next: Liverpool vs Manchester United

The English champions will take on their arch-rivals on Sunday, October 19.

The Reds have dominated the Liverpool vs Manchester United rivalry in recent times and will be the favourites to beat United once again this month. However, any reversal in that match might peg them further back in the title race, and considering Salah’s form – and Liverpool’s form too – there is too much of a possibility of that.

Slot’s men are second in the league table, narrowly trailing Arsenal at the moment. They also have Champions League football on their plate and will take on Eintracht Frankfurt later this month in the competition.

In such a scenario, it becomes imperative for Liverpool that their most potent weapon starts firing properly. Salah is still doing well for his team, but is not quite able to match the high standards he has set himself.

With his contract with the club set for another year, the “Egyptian King” would like to end his stint with the Reds on a high.
