Manchester United Win Against Arsenal Marks Another Huge Success for Michael Carrick

The Manchester United win against Arsenal was yet another huge statement by Michael Carrick’s men. Manchester United won the match 3-2 to go fourth in the Premier League table with 38 points from 23 matches.

Arsenal, meanwhile, remain at the top with 50 from 23 after suffering their third defeat of the season, but their lead over Manchester City and Aston Villa has been reduced to four points now.

It was supposed to be a baptism by fire for Carrick, who faced the top two teams in the league in his first two matches as the Manchester United manager. However, as things turned out, his team has won both of those matches now.

Manchester United Win Against Arsenal Was a Deserving One

The Manchester United winger against Arsenal was a deserving one. Until the first goal of the match was scored by the Gunners, United confined themselves to a defensive shell. In the first 12 minutes or so, Arsenal played 22 passes in the final third, while United made none. The Red Devils had played ultra-defensive football up until that point.

However, as the Gunners scored their first goal through a Lisandro Martinez mistake, United came back into the match. The Manchester United win was ensured by strikes from Bryan Mbeumo, Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha. The Red Devils won the match 3-2 in the end, displaying a desire to triumph against a side that has looked almost unbeatable at home in recent times.

Arsenal’s attacks were, once again, primarily throughout the right flank and inside-right channel. Manchester United knew it all too well, and Luke Shaw and Martinez thwarted Bukayo Saka again and again. Patrick Dorgu, starting as the left-winger, fell back repeatedly to help his defence deal with Saka, Odegaard and Jurrien Timber down the right.

In the second half, Noni Madueke was introduced on the right flank, while Ben White replaced Timber. As Dorgu had to go off following an injury, Cunha came on, and United’s defence was a bit affected as a result. Arsenal won corners repeatedly through the right side and managed to score from one of them as well.

However, the Manchester United win was a result of an unyielding approach, as the Red Devils did not take their foot off the pedal even after going 2-1 up. United kept winning the ball back in the middle third again and again, with even Bruno Fernandes contributing significantly in that respect.

The first United goal was a result of a mispass by Martin Zubimendi, but the next two were scored with scorching shots from outside the penalty box. Dorgu once again impressed with his work-rate and Cunha made his mark again.

Arsenal Have Another Stiff Test Awaiting Them

Arsenal will face Leeds United away in their next match. Leeds could turn out to be a handful in their own backyard. Mikel Arteta will know all too well that his team cannot afford to drop more points at this moment.

On the other hand, the Manchester United win at the Emirates Stadium should inspire Carrick a great deal. At this rate, United should be able to realise their dream of qualifying for the Champions League next season. That is something a club of their size should definitely aim for.
