Kacper Urbanski is a name that most Polish people will recognise and will link to a fearless midfielder, a young star, a Polish wonderkid and a potential generational talent.
However, since 2024, the Kacper Urbanski downfall has seen the midfielder lose his spark, endure a poor loan to Serie A minnows AC Monza, and then return back to the Ekstraklasa.
No one expected this to happen: from nailing down a starting role in a Bologna side playing in the UEFA Champions League to being named in the starting XI for Poland at Euro 2024, Kacper Urbanski has endured what has been a difficult couple of years since the last European Championships.
With that being said, the young midfielder is still only 21, and with bags of potential and his career definitely not over, Urbanski still has the chance to prove all his doubters wrong.
Kacper Urbanski Downfall: The 15-Year-Old That Burst Onto The Scene
In December 2019, a 15-year-old Kacper Urbanski came off the bench for Lechia Gdansk against Rakow Czestochowa to taste his first minutes in senior football. Lechia may have lost the game 3-0, but the Polish wonderkid became the third-youngest debutant in the whole of Europe at the time.
He would go on to appear a further two times for Lechia during the 2019/20 season, as the young midfielder burst onto the scene for his boyhood club. During the 2020/21 season, he made one league and one cup appearance before Bologna came swarming in, picked up the youngster and signed him on loan.

A switch to Italy was a perfect one for Urbanski, as the midfielder jumped into the Bologna under-19s, played plenty of football and continued his development despite his young age. He managed a single minute from the bench for I Rossoblù in the Serie A in the 2020/21 season, but played 33 matches for the under-19s side, scoring two goals and providing three assists at the age of only 17 during the following season.
More youth football experience in the 2022/23 season saw him provide nine goals and five assists from 32 Primavera 1 matches, as a transition into the first team beckoned. That switch of environment happened the next season, with the Polish wonderkid playing 25 matches, as then-manager Thiago Motta provided him with the platform to showcase his talents in the Italian top flight.
However, with that being said, it all came crashing down in the 2024/25 season. A good start to the season that saw him score his first Serie A goal on his first start in the new season made for a positive start for the midfielder; however, minutes started to become scarce even after playing in the UEFA Champions League, and the second half of the season saw him loaned out.

Kacper Urbanski Downfall: A Poor Loan And A Return To The Ekstraklasa
A loan move to Serie A minnows AC Monza saw the midfielder start the first few games, but after failing to impress, he was left on the substitute’s bench most of the time, and he only managed eight appearances out on loan. Following this, he would be moved on to Legia Warszawa for a fee of €700,000.
However, after only 28 appearances, one goal and two assists, the Wojskowi were left far from impressed with his performances. With the height of expectation as a Polish wonderkid and after performing so well at youth level, the world looked like it was crashing down for Urbanski, and subpar performances for Legia proved this.
The second-lowest performing player for the Legioniści in the Ekstraklasa during the 2025/26 season, the Kacper Urbanski downfall was evident, but still at the age of only 21, his whole career is ahead of him. In June 2026, Gornik Zabrze came in with a lifeline. With European football, a chance to star in the midfield and the pressure off him, this was the move that could revitalise the career of the Polish wonderkid.
Kacper Urbanski Downfall: Gornik Zabrze, European Adventure And The Chance To Bounce Back
At the end of June 2026, Urbanski made the switch to Gornik Zabrze on a free transfer from Legia Warszawa, and for the moment, it looks like a perfect switch of environments for the 21-year-old midfielder. Already six games into the new season, with European football qualifying getting underway early, the Polish wonderkid has experienced a resurgence in form.
Whilst Gornik have struggled in the UEFA Champions League qualifying and UEFA Europa League qualifying, in the Ekstraklasa, they have been flying with two wins from two games. Playing both games fully from the first minute, Urbanski picked up his first goal for his new club in their latest league win, a 3-1 victory over Radomiak Radom.
Gornik are currently second in the Ekstraklasa, a point off the leaders Legia Warszawa, but they also have a game in hand on Urbanski’s old club. With European adventures in midweek once again, the young midfielder will look to prove that the Kacper Urbanski downfall was only temporary and that the new environment that he finds himself in will make him shine once more.
