Following the return from his doping ban, Mykhailo Mudryk to Coventry City has been a hot topic, as the Ukrainian winger looks set to be reuniting with former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard in the West Midlands. The newly-promoted Sky Blues won the EFL Championship title last season and returned to the Premier League for the first time since 2001.

The former Blues midfielder and manager is a keen admirer of the 25-year-old winger, who gets to resume his footballing career after he was suspended by the FA in December 2024. On July 31, 2026, all of the charges were dropped, and the Ukrainian winger had the chance to return to the Chelsea first team.

With a chance to get his career back on track, is the Mykhailo Mudryk to Coventry City move the right move for his career or will the 25-year-old go somewhere else to get some much-needed first-team minutes?

Mykhailo Mudryk To Coventry City: Bringing Premier League Experience To The Sky Blues

When you look at the Coventry City team on paper, one thing is missing: Premier League experience. Their squad has a very good mix of young talent and experienced professionals, but top-flight experience could be the difference between them surviving relegation and dropping straight back down to the EFL Championship, and this is where the Mykhailo Mudryk to Coventry City move helps them.

In a relatively young forward line, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto is the oldest forward at the age of 29, but has not experienced any football in the top flight in England. Striker Ellis Simms and new signing Loum Tchaouna are the only two players from the attacking set-up that have played in the Premier League; however, both have a combined total of 41 Premier League appearances between them.

With the transfer of Mykhailo Mudryk to Coventry City, they have a winger who has amassed over 50 Premier League appearances in his time at Chelsea before the ban and a player who dominated the Ukrainian top flight before his move to England from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023.

However, the downside of the Mykhailo Mudryk to Coventry City move is that they would be banking on a player who has not played a competitive minute of football since December 2024. In his best season at Chelsea, the 2023/24 campaign, he amassed 41 appearances, seven goals and two assists. Mudryk is the type of winger who is not afraid to take his opponent on, make incisive runs into the box and also be a clinical finisher.

Before his ban, Mudryk was flying high in the UEFA Conference League, the competition that Chelsea would go on to win at the end of the 2024/25 season. The 25-year-old winger produced three goals and three assists in six games and would have easily placed as the top winger of the competition, with an average rating of 8.32 from the six games before he was banned from football.

Mykhailo Mudryk to Coventry City: A Move To A Different Premier League Side Or The Strasbourg Debate

Chelsea’s ownership, BlueCo, are affiliated with Strasbourg, and a move to Ligue 1 is certainly not out of the question, but Mudryk’s preferred destination would be to remain in the Premier League and to keep his dream of fighting for his place back in the Chelsea starting XI alive.

With that being said, you cannot rule out the winger staying at the club, playing football under Xabi Alonso before he is loaned out in January. This would seem like the most likely scenario with Mudryk’s stock relatively low after his absence from football for the best part of nearly two years.

It has also been reported that there have been enquiries from two other Premier League clubs alongside teams from Europe that are keen to sign the winger. This could be the exact moment that Mudryk’s footballing career is revived, and after so many lows, there finally seems to be an opportunity for the winger to thrive again with the Mykhailo Mudryk to Coventry City transfer.

After a challenging 20 months, the Mykhailo Mudryk to Coventry City move could relight a spark in the Ukrainian winger, and under former manager Frank Lampard, he could have a chance to return back to his best.
