It’s that time of year again when 54 European countries hit it off to figure out who would eventually emerge as the Nations League champions. Looking to reach the final of the competition, Thomas Tuchel has announced his 2026/2027 squad list for the England Nations League Squad.
The Three Lions face Spain at Wembley on September 26, then lock horns with the Czech Republic three days later, on September 29. On October 3, the England Nations League squad will play Croatia, then return to face the Czech Republic on October 6. Later on, they will face Croatia for a second kick-off on November 12, and finally play Spain on November 15.
In goal to represent the England Nations League squad includes Jordan Pickford, James Trafford and Jason Steele. For his defence, Tuchel selects Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarrad Branthwaite, Trevor Chalobah, Marc Guéhi, Lewis Hall, Ezri Konsa, Tino Livramento, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Nico O’Reilly, and Jarrel Quansah.
For the midfield position, Elliot Anderson, Jude Bellingham, Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice and Alex Scott represent the Three Lions. England is also congested with a lot of attacking options, and this includes the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Eberechi Eze, Anthony Gordon, Harry Kane, Rio Ngumoha, Marcus Rashford, Morgan Rogers and Bukayo Saka.
Fortunately, Alexander-Arnold is set to start at right-back after being sidelined by Tuchel for the England World Cup campaign. The situation is the same for Palmer, who happens to be back to his best this season, and has become an integral part of Chelsea’s attack.
It also doesn’t come as a surprise that Calvert-Lewin is named in the England Nations League squad list. The forward has assisted Leeds United in climbing to fourth position in the Premier League table. For the first time in his career, Rio Ngumoha makes it into the England Men’s National team. It’s a huge moment for the Liverpool forward; one he will never forget in a hurry.
Arsenal Players Make The Majority Of Tuchel’s England Nations League Squad
Although Manchester City has three players included in the squad for the Three Lions, Arsenal has five players making it to the list. This includes defensive duo Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ezri Konsa, midfield duo Declan Rice and Eberechi Eze, alongside Arsenal’s star boy Bukayo Saka.
However, the former Chelsea boss has been criticised for including Eze in the list after he hasn’t had much of an effect in Arsenal’s title defence this season. On the other hand, Konsa has helped to solidify the Gunners’ defence in the absence of William Saliba, and Tuchel didn’t hesitate to include him.

England Nations League Squad: Some Huge Players Not Making The List
Unfortunately, Tuchel left out some big names in the England Nations League squad, notably:
- Phil Foden
- Morgan Gibbs-White
- Harry Maguire
- Adam Wharton
- Ivan Toney
- Ollie Watkins
- Jordan Henderson
- Djed Spence
- Reece James
- Dan Burn
- John Stones
- Dean Henderson
When asked as to why Gibbs-White was dropped, Tuchel stated thus:
“I see Gibbs-White’s form, but calling up many number 10s makes no sense.”
Also recall Noni Madueke made the England 2026 World Cup squad. However, having played fewer minutes under Mikel Arteta this season, Tuchel decided to have him sidelined from the England Nations League squad. Ben White, who has been consistent in Arsenal’s shirt, also doesn’t make it to the squad. It appears the manager preferred the likes of Alexander-Arnold, Hall and Livramento in the right-back position. Lastly, the England boss opted to drop off some players due to injuries they sustained. Little wonder the likes of Reece James, Spence, John Stones and Dan Burn are not selected as part of the England Nations League squad.

When it comes to selecting players for tournaments, Tuchel can be firm in his stance in picking out players who are fit and have played a reasonable number of minutes for their club. From the look of things, England appears to have what it takes to grab the Nations League trophy.
