Club football is back after a three-week international break, with some exciting UEFA Champions League fixtures coming up.

With only one round of the league phase played, it is too early to know where each team stands. However, the first round of fixtures did set an early picture.

Paris Saint-Germain are looking strong and like the team to beat, with Bayern Munich and Barcelona not far behind.

Manchester United are the highest-placed Premier League side in the Champions League standings after beating Sabah 4-0. However, their domestic form has raised doubts over how they will perform as the competition progresses. Their City rivals, led by Enzo Maresca, are eighth, while Aston Villa, Liverpool, Arsenal and La Liga side Real Madrid are in the qualification playoff positions.

The Round 2 Champions League fixtures will kick off on Tuesday, October 13 and end the following night, while Rounds 3-8 will be played between late October and late January with plenty of exciting matches to look forward to.

Pundits and punters are already salivating at some of these high-stakes matches. Those who choose to bet on matches per Casino Guru should look to find top value. With some of the biggest clubs on the planet set to square off, there is no shortage of betting opportunities.

Five Top Upcoming Champions League Fixtures

With multiple top teams from Europe’s best leagues, there are many exciting Champions League fixtures on the horizon.

From back-to-back champions PSG, who will be eager to defend their title, to Premier League champions Arsenal, who are chasing the ever-elusive Champions League trophy, there is plenty of action to look forward to.

Manchester City vs PSG (Round 2)

We don’t have to wait long for the first of many exciting Champions League fixtures.

On Wednesday, October 14, PSG travel to Manchester, where they will face the Cityzens in the final match of Round 2.

As things stand, PSG look capable of doing a three-peat, while Manchester City will be aiming to make noise on the pitch to quiet down the controversy surrounding them.

Maresca and star striker Erling Haaland have recently addressed the guilty verdict on the club’s 114 financial charges, insisting that they are “very calm” and that their focus is on football and winning, while the club continues to maintain its innocence.

Despite winning their opening five Premier League games, some of Maresca’s victories have not been entirely convincing. A win against PSG would be exactly what Man City need amid the controversy surrounding the club. However, there is no denying that the reigning European champions will not be an easy side to face.

PSG vs Barcelona (Round 3)

As outright favourites of the competition, PSG have more exciting Champions League fixtures ahead of them.

Following their Round 2 clash with Man City, the Parisians will host Barcelona in Round 3.

This fixture is expected to be a goal-scoring affair, as the Catalan giants have already scored 31 goals in seven La Liga games. PSG might have scored only eight in five league games so far, but Ferran Torres is in good form after scoring a hat-trick in Round 1 against Slovan.

With both sides boasting attacking threats, this could be one of the most entertaining Champions League fixtures of the league phase.

Bayern Munich vs Arsenal (Round 3)

Round 3 has plenty of exciting Champions League fixtures to offer, with Bayern Munich hosting Arsenal at the Allianz Arena on October 21. The reigning Premier League champions will face their toughest test of the season so far against the Bundesliga giants.

Arsenal have not had the most convincing of starts to the season. However, they have a strong team, and confidence from last season’s league triumph to boost them.

The Gunners are tough to score against, but how true that is will be seen when the likes of Harry Kane face them come Round 3. Bayern Munich are a free-scoring team, especially in Europe, setting up an intriguing early-season Champions League clash.

Arsenal vs Real Madrid (Round 6)

Arsenal will have another tough test when they face Real Madrid in Round 6 of the league phase.

Real Madrid may be struggling to find their footing in the 2026/27 season, but they remain a threat in front of goal. Jose Mourinho’s men have already scored 18 La Liga goals so far, and as they continue to settle under him, that form is likely to improve by the time they face Arsenal.

Arsenal are strong defensively, but can be broken down by teams with great attacking strength – like Real Madrid – setting up one of the most enticing Champions League fixtures of the season.

Manchester United vs Bayern Munich (Round 7)

Football fans may not be happy about having to wait until late January 20, 2027, to see one of the most highly anticipated Champions League fixtures of the season. However, Manchester United fans are probably happy with the wait.

Michael Carrick has not begun his first full season in charge the way he ended his interim spell last season. His side currently sit 12th, having scored eight goals and conceded the same in five games, with two draws and two losses to their name.

There have been some promising signs, but that may not be enough against a team as tough as Bayern Munich. However, by the time this fixture comes around, the squad will have likely settled well under Carrick, and the January transfer window will have probably added some strength to areas that currently need to be addressed, such as in defence.

Only time can tell with this fixture.

Extra Time Notes

There are plenty of exciting Champions League fixtures to look forward to in the league phase of the 2026/27 season, some of which have not even been mentioned. Atletico Madrid vs Man United, Atletico Madrid vs Bayern Munich, Arsenal vs Dortmund, Barcelona vs Man City, and Inter Milan vs Liverpool are among others fans should be eager for.

As we are only one round in, the tournament is still quite open, as a lot can change between now and the latter stages of the league phase alone.

However, football fans have plenty of exciting Champions League fixtures to look forward to as the league phase unfolds. With teams still adapting to the new season, new managers settling in and off-field controversies continuing to attract attention, there is plenty that could shape the competition before the knockout stages begin.
