A Look at the Recent Bayern Munich Women Transfers

The Bayern Munich women’s team are currently at their winter training camp in the south of Spain, preparing for the second half of the season.

They are looking to make this term a memorable one, which they might well accomplish considering that apart from three major hiccups along the way, (a Women’s Bundesliga 0-0 draw against relegation-threatened Carl-Zeiss Jena, the infamous 7-1 defeat to Barcelona and the UEFA Women’s Champions League, and the 2-2 draw against Atletico Madrid in the same competition), coach José Barcala’s side have won all other games across all competitions. Even so, there have been some Bayern Munich women transfers.

Bayern Munich Women Transfers: Lea Schüller Leaves for Manchester United

The first of the Bayern Munich women transfers in the 2026 January transfer window was to sell Schüller to Manchester United. The striker, whose contract was set to expire this summer, had received so little playing time so far this season that she lost her starting spot on the national team.

A player of Schüller’s pedigree needs time on the field. She is a particularly streaky goalscorer, having scored so often toward the end of last season, without ever fully regaining that scoring touch this term.

What makes this move especially interesting is the fact that Bayern will take on the winners of the Manchester United- Atletico Madrid tie in UWCL quarterfinals, meaning that Schüller could quickly return to Munich and ruin her former club’s season.

Edna Imade’s Recall From a Loan To Real Sociedad

As a response to Schüller’s exit, Bayern Munich decided to bring back Edna Imade, the young Spanish international striker, whom they had loaned to Real Sociedad upon signing her in the summer.

As is often the case, especially with young female players, there is very little reliable information about her online.

However, the fact that she was part of the Spain women’s squad, which won the Nations League, coming in in the finals against Germany, is a good sign. Hopefully, this, the second of the Bayern Munich women transfers, will be a positive one.

The Midfield Is the Side’s Problem Area

The ACL injuries of both Sarah Zadrazil and Lena Oberdorf have greatly decimated the team’s midfield. Besides Arianna Caruso and, of course, England’s Georgia Stanway, there was no other natural central midfielder in Barcala’s squad.

Therefore, bringing in Bernadette Amani from CD Tenerife was probably a good idea. However, the Ivorian international will likely represent her country at the Women’s AFCON tournament this spring.

The African football federation decided on short notice that it would expand the tournament from 12 to 16 teams. That means that the Ivory Coast, which had originally narrowly failed to qualify, will still be at the tournament.

For Bayern Munich women, that means that Amani will not be with the club during a crucial part of the season.

Other Moves

Besides the above-mentioned Bayern Munich women transfers, the Bavarians have also announced that Stanway will not extend her contract, which runs out in the summer.
She will likely return home to the WSL, which is understandable, after four successful years in Munich.

Besides letting Stanway go at the end of her contract, Bayern have been able to secure contract extensions with Momoko Tanikawa, Zadrazil, along with Pernille Harder, Magdalena Eriksson, and captain Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir.

Those Bayern Munich women transfers have, in large part, secured the team’s future.
