Harry Kane, the 29-year-old star English striker, might be leaving Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the next season. Kane has scored a remarkable 280 goals for Spurs from 435 matches with them across 13 seasons.
That makes him one of the most prolific English strikers in the last few decades, along with the likes of Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney. In fact, Kane is within touching distance of Shearer’s all-time goal-scoring record in the Premier League.
He has previously been linked to various clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid before. Should he finally decide to leave Spurs, it will the end of era. The lack of silverware may deter him. Thus he will be desperate to make amends by signing for another club.
The possible destinations for Kane
Clubs like Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have already shown interest in signing the English striker. Even PSG is interested in signing him, it seems. Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in Europe, but no English player – bar Owen Hargreaves – has been successful while playing for them.
Kane can be probable trend-setter in this regard. Bayern has not yet been able to replace the redoubtable Robert Lewandowski since he left for Barcelona in 2022. Eric-Maxim Choupo Moting has been moderately successful for them playing as the No. 9, while Sadio Mané has been below-par since signing for them from Liverpool.
Kane can be an ideal replacement for Lewandowski at Bayern. He will be surrounded by quality players like Jamal Musiala, Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane. As a result, there should not be a lack of supply of balls to him.
However, should he decide to go to Manchester City, he will struggle to make it to the starting eleven ahead of the incredibly prolific Erling Haaland. However, going to City would also allow him to continue playing football in his homeland.
Real Madrid will also try to come to terms with the departure of Karim Benzema and Kane might be the man to fill the void. Real is one of the biggest clubs in world football, and is a dream of every footballer to play for Los Blancos.
Kane is more than just a typical No. 9
Kane is a modern No. 9 in every sense of the word. He usually plays in a deeper role for his country and is almost equally adept at creating moves as he is at finishing them. His passing range and great shooting power make him dangerous from outside the opposition penalty box as well.
It means that he can play behind Haaland as well – something that Julian Alvarez has done at times – should he decide to sign for Manchester City. However, if he decides to go to Bayern or Real, he will have to play as a typical nine.
He will be 30 at the start of the next season, meaning his reflexes might start to be on the wane. It might prompt to play him more often in a supporting role behind the main striker. Kane will probably weigh in those factors before making his final decision in this regard.
Our take on this
Given his age, Manchester City should be the ideal destination for Kane. Being in such a star-studded team will mean that he will be in a position to win silverware. At the same time, he might enjoy playing behind Erling Haaland and be more involved in creating moves. Signing for City will give him the comfort of staying in his familiar Premier League.
Moving to Bayern might prove to be too difficult a prospect at this stage of his career. Aside from playing in a foreign country, it will also mean that he will have to take up the role of the main striker. The same goes about Real Madrid. It remains to be seen whether he is ready to take up such a challenge.
