Borussia Dortmund Return With a Great Win

Football is finally back! Today, the Bundesliga resumed and Borussia Dortmund defeated Schalke 4-0 in what was the 180th edition of the Revierderby. It was BVB’s 800th victory in their Bundesliga history.

Borussia Dortmund took control of the game from the beginning, although without showing such evident dominance until the 25th minute.

Both teams were uncomfortable on the field during the first half-hour. The inactivity of two months was noted, but with the passing of the minutes, the players were settling in the field.

The first goal came in the 29th minute when a brilliant gesture from Julian Brandt released Thorgan Hazard down the right wing to send a deadly cross into the box, where Erling Haaland only had to divert the ball to the back of the net with a subtle touch with his left leg and thus claim his tenth goal in the Bundesliga.

Just before the end of the first half, Brandt, again, would be decisive when placing a pass for Raphael Guerreiro, who scored the second goal with a powerful and crossed left-footed shot to beat Schubert, the goalkeeper of Schalke.

The third goal came after a lethal counterattack, again Julian Brandt due protagonist and served a perfect pass for Thorgan Hazard, who finished off powerfully to beat a Schubert who could do much more to avoid the fall of his arc.

The team led by Lucien Favre did not lift their foot from the accelerator and got the fourth in the 68th minute, a pass from Haaland left Raphael Guerreiro completely alone in the area and he scored his second goal of the afternoon and his seventh in the league, it was a great match for Portuguese.

Notable absences

It should be noted that Jadon Sancho (14 goals and 15 assists) and Marco Reus (11 goals and 5 assists) did not play (well Sancho played the final 10 minutes) and even so Dortmund showed absolute superiority.

With this victory Borussia Dortmund reached 54 points and is second in the standings, one point behind Bayern Munich (who plays tomorrow). While Schalke 04 fell to eighth position and remains at 37 points.
