AFC Bournemouth’s Form: Caused By a Period Of Uncertainty Over The Future Of Some Senior Figures at the Club?

Following a promising opening to the season, AFC Bournemouth’s form has taken a turn for the worse, with their last victory coming on October 26, 2025, in the Premier League. But why has their form changed, and how will they resolve their issues?

Bournemouth’s Form: The Reasons For Their Struggles

Bournemouth’s form in the opening exchanges of the season took many by surprise, with consistent admirable performances ensuring they were situated near the top of the table for a long period. After opening day defeat to Liverpool, the squad was able to gel in a surprising manner, even with the new additions and outgoings.

However, Bournemouth’s form has changed completely. The side have not won for a long period of time, falling to 15th on the Premier League table, suddenly close to the relegation zone.

Although Bournemouth’s form is negative, many would be surprised if they were to fall in the relegation mix. However, a culmination of factors need to be resolved to ensure they improve their form.

Many have indicated that Bournemouth’s form is partially down to their defensive performances, with some indicating that Adrien Truffert and Marcos Senesi haven’t been up to standard. In the last two months, they have conceded three or more goals in six different matches, indicating that defensive performances have been below par.

Furthermore, uncertainty over the future of some figures at the club may have been a contributing factor to the performances. This is similar to Crystal Palace, a team whose performance standard has decreased since the future of Oliver Glasner has been in doubt. However, the squad depth at Crystal Palace is also a huge contributor to recent performances.

Who May Be Leaving The Club?

The main player that is potentially departing Bournemouth is Antoine Semenyo, with rumours indicating that it is increasingly likely that the player will be playing for Manchester City after the January transfer window.

Semenyo was one of the main players who was in superb form at the start of the season, and one of the big factors for Bournemouth’s form at the start of the season. Although he was never likely to continue such form, his form has decreased since then, as has the team’s form.

Another player that may be leaving the club, and contributing to uncertainty within the team, is defender Marcos Senesi. Senesi has been a good signing for the Cherries, having joined for a small fee in 2022 from Feyenoord. However, the player looks set to be sealing an agreement to join a club abroad as his contract runs out in the summer.

Another person who may be leaving due to his contract running out in the summer, and a pivotal person for AFC Bournemouth is manager Andoni Iraola. The Spaniard’s contract is currently set to run out in the summer, and he appears to be no closer to signing a new contract.

Andoni Iraola has reshaped Bournemouth’s style of football dramatically and successfully, since joining the club, and thus, with no indication of whether or not he may be continuing next season, such uncertainty has shown in Bournemouth’s performances.

Conclusion

Bournemouth’s form has shown that clubs that recruit players and managers to sell for a bigger fee do have uncertain periods as they look to replace stars set to leave.

However, many have praised the way that owner Bill Foley has run the club since taking over, and Bournemouth will look to continue with their philosophies, with many expecting their form to turn around once issues are resolved.
