Brighton has been far from the fantastic team they were last season and the results show it – from securing sixth place for a Europa League spot to barely making it into the top 10 this year. It was a downfall that could be attributed to a lot of things, from losing key players like Alexis MacAllister and Mosiés Caicedo to rivals, injuries to the likes of Karou Mitoma and Evan Ferguson, and simply having to play European fixtures midweek with a limited squad.
The Seagulls’ season ended a long time ago: always safe from relegation, but too far off from the European spots. Possibly due to this the second half of the season has not been ideal for them but they arrive in great form managing a 1-0 win against Aston Villa and a 1-1 draw against Newcastle away.
Chelsea managed a crucial 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, scoring two goals in the final minutes. The goals came with key participation from both Raheem Sterling and Reece James in their return from injury. A near-perfect weekend for the Blues with Newcastle’s 1-1 draw against Brighton and Manchester United´s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal that meant huge gains in the fight for sixth place.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side is now three points clear of Manchester United and level on points with Newcastle. The Magpies hold the lead due to a 10-goal difference advantage over the London side, making it almost impossible to revert at this point. Winning their two remaining games might not be enough for a European spot, and they would need Manchester City to triumph in the FA Cup final to free up another place in the Premier League table.

Brighton vs Chelsea Prediction
Chelsea win at 2.00
Chelsea is extremely close to European football next year due to a sustained improvement in the second half of the season. They were struggling to win on the road, and even though it was not against the strongest team, the fact of getting that out of the way will be a boost for their final visit of the season. A team playing with a clear goal in mind will always have a slight edge over a team just waiting for the season to end.
Brighton vs Chelsea Tips
Both teams to score at 1.40
The last five Premier League encounters between them have provided goals on both sides of the pitch. Chelsea’s need for three points in their battle for sixth will cause them to go out looking for a result. Brighton, on the other hand, has nothing to lose so they will play more freely and attacking than in a normal situation.
