Chelsea Plot Possible Summer Move for ‘Exceptional’ 44 G/a Midfielder To Lighten up Attacking Options

Chelsea are preparing for a promising 2025/26 Premier League campaign after having recently won the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup title by defeating Paris Saint-Germain in the finale.

The London heavyweights have already been quite proactive in the summer transfer window with the signings of players like Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens, but it seems that they are eager to add more firepower to their attack.

Chelsea are now being linked with RB Leipzig youngster Xavi Simons to further bulk up Enzo Maresca’s squad depth to help them compete across all competitions in a strong manner.

How Can Chelsea Sign Xavi Simons From RB Leipzig?

It’s being reported that Chelsea have developed an interest in signing the Dutch midfielder in the summer transfer window to add more explosiveness to their attacking line.

However, it’s claimed that the Blues’ move for the 22-year-old will depend upon whether they are able to free up their squad by selling certain members of the squad in the summer window.

Chelsea have not ruled out the prospect of signing another attacking player despite making three prominent transfers and also waiting on the arrival of Estevao Willian from Palmeiras.

It’s claimed that the move to sign Simons will depend on whether the West London club are able to sell any member of their current forward line, which includes the likes of Christopher Nkunku, Joao Felix, Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson (who is being linked to Manchester United).

The report claims that Chelsea’s management currently wants as many as nine players to be ready to compete for their attacking positions in the 2025/26 season, and that is exactly why Simons is considered a prominent target.

The Dutch midfielder is reportedly interested in the possibility of joining the Blues and rates them as the most attractive of the Premier League clubs interested in him.

Simons is also working with his agent, Ali Barat, over a move, knowing that he has strong links to the World Champions and can help facilitate a move for him to Stamford Bridge.

What Can Xavi Simons Bring to Chelsea?

Xavi Simons is attracting Chelsea’s interest because of his heroics for the RB Leipzig side in the Bundesliga last season. He only featured in 25 games for them, but managed to stand out by scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in the competition.

In fact, Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson were the only Blues players to have scored more league goals than Simons in the 2024/25 season.

The Dutchman’s overall impact in matches, when it comes to his ability to create chances and carry the ball into the danger areas, is also reflected in his numbers.

The Dutch midfielder averaged 4.71 shot-creating actions, 5.79 progressive passes, and 3.51 progressive carries every 90 minutes in the 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign. In comparison, Enzo Fernandez, who often played as an attacking midfielder for the Blues last season, averaged 6.47 progressive passes, 4.49 shot-creating actions and 1.83 progressive carries per 90 in the Premier League.

That shows Xavi can be as energetic and efficient as Fernandez and potentially even more threatening in creating chances for his side.

The 22-year-old midfielder was hailed as “exceptional” by Bayern Munich director Chistoph Freund in 2024 and has 44 goal contributions (21 goals, 23 assists) in just 76 games for RB Leipzig.

It now remains to be seen if Chelsea can fast-track any sales and sign Xavi Simons to add more quality to their frontline, which can help them compete strongly for the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles.
