It is do or die for Club América in the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinal, as they travel away to Hidalgo to face off against Pachuca in the second leg. A venue that in knockout rounds has been nothing short of a nightmare for América. After a disappointing first leg at the Azteca where they managed only a 1-1 draw, the team will be looking to make up for it and finally put their ghost to rest.
Club América Predicted Lineup vs Pachuca: Champions Cup Semifinal 2nd Leg
How Club América Have Lined Up Recently
André Jardine has continued to use his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation throughout the season, with Israel Reyes continuing to be the starting right back choice for the manager. Alongside him, the back line has consisted of Igor Lichnovsky and Sebastián Cáceres when both fit. If needed, Ramón Juárez has been able to fill in for either centre back this season proving he is more than capable of being a starter. With goalkeeper Luis Malagón providing the upmost security in goal and having his best season, América look well secured at the back.
The anchor of the team continues to be Jonathan Dos Santos who just recently turned 34 last week. Yet, the heart and engine of the team is in no doubt Álvaro Fidalgo and Diego Valdés. When either of those two players are not on the pitch the decline in América’s offense is evident. Meaning those two will play a pivotal role on Tuesday against Pachuca in trying to open up their defence.
Club América Recent Form and Tactics
It has been a short turn around for Club América since last week’s Champions Cup game against Pachuca. They recently just traveled to Puebla to play the last game of the regular season in Liga MX. André Jardine put in a B team and got a much needed 2-1 victory that helped them secure first place in the league. With that game being the last of the regular season, América will shift their attention to this midweek game with a rested and full strength squad.
As far as Concacaf Champions Cup goes, the team will desperately be looking to mend their wrongs from last weeks match. América drew the first leg of the semifinal one all at home meaning everything is to play for on the road against Pachuca. A game that surely promises to be the team’s toughest challenge this season. The team’s main objective this year was to win the Champions Cup and book a ticket to the new FIFA Club World Cup in 2025. So, depending on the result this game it could just make or break América’s tremendous campaign so far.
Club América Injuries to Consider
It seems that for the first time in a long time this season Jardine will have all his players available. Meanwhile, backup striker Illian Hernández returning to the bench against Puebla. Although he did not feature in the match, it seems the last of the injured players for América has made a full recovery. Thus, América is expected to have their full arsenal at their disposal.
