Cole Palmer Takes Centre Stage in Chelsea’s Club World Cup Triumph

Chelsea beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the Club World Cup final last Sunday, July 13, in New York to win the trophy.

Cole Palmer scored a brace for them, and Joao Pedro added a third to complete the victory. Pedro now has three goals in two matches for the Royal Blues.

It was something of an upset, as Luis Enrique’s PSG have been in marauding form in recent times.

However, it was Chelsea’s talisman, Palmer, who shone once again to fashion the win for Enzo Maresca’s men. The 23-year-old English midfielder thus kept making the case for himself as England’s best footballer at the moment, even keeping Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham in consideration.

Cole Palmer: From Domestic Dominance to European Dreams

Palmer has been a revelation since joining Chelsea from Manchester City. He has scored 43 goals and registered more than 20 assists in 97 matches for the Royal Blues so far.

Starting as a right-winger, Palmer has now emerged as a potent No. 10 for the West Londoners.

However, his performance last season was a bit underwhelming compared to the one in the previous one. Still, Chelsea managed to finish in fourth position in the Premier League table and won the UEFA Conference League as well.

Still, it has been somewhat unfortunate that Palmer has not played in UEFA Champions League football yet for the Royal Blues, as they have not qualified for Europe’s biggest club tournament during the past few seasons.

However, they will play in the Champions League next season, giving Palmer an opportunity to shine on big European nights. He has gotten the opportunity to play in two international club tournaments so far and won the title in both of them.

That is a very fine track record and will give him the confidence to be geared up for more success in the Champions League as well.

With new signings like Jamie Gittens, Joao Pedro and Liam Delap likely to make their mark as well, Chelsea’s attack will be rejuvenated for the upcoming season.

‘City’s Boy Is Now Chelsea’s Man’

Palmer came through the youth ranks of Manchester City and spent four seasons at the senior level for the club. He managed to win a Premier League title for Pep Guardiola’s team as well.

However, he was able to appear in only 41 matches for the Cityzens in his four seasons with them, scoring six goals.

From being a fringe player at Manchester City, Palmer has emerged as one of the most influential players in English football. His contract with Chelsea runs until 2033, which is a long time away. It is of no use speculating whether Palmer stays with the club until that time.

However, as of now, all eyes will be on him at the beginning of next season.

Palmer will also be England’s key player in next year’s FIFA World Cup. It is now up to Thomas Tuchel to use him properly in the set-up of the Three Lions.

Palmer should look to continue performing for both club and country alike.
