Cristian Romero Suspension: Shocking Tackle Sees Spurs Captain Sent Off And Suspended For Four Games

The Cristian Romero suspension will see the Spurs captain miss four upcoming games after his sending off against Manchester United and his recent comments about the club’s squad issues.

Following the Argentine’s social media post, the issue was handled internally, and Spurs manager Thomas Frank kept faith in the defender.

Romero was expected to lead the defence, but his game ended early as he made a strong tackle on Casemiro and was shown a red card for dangerous play in the 29th minute.

A red card like this usually leads to a three-match ban, but due to the Argentine already being sent off this season, the Cristian Romero suspension means Tottenham Hotspur will be without their captain for four important matches.

Romero has now been sent off twice in the Premier League this season. His first red card came in December during the 2–1 loss to Liverpool, when he received two yellow cards.

Due to picking up two red cards this season, Romero will miss Tottenham’s next four domestic matches, and his suspension begins with Newcastle United’s visit to North London.

The former Juventus, Genoa and Atalanta defender will also miss some key fixtures, including the North London derby against Arsenal, the home game against Crystal Palace and the away clash against Liverpool.

Romero will not return to domestic action until March, when Tottenham face Nottingham Forest, but he will be eligible to play in the Champions League Round of 16 clash against either Juventus, Galatasaray, Atletico Madrid or Club Brugge.

This latest red card is Romero’s sixth since joining Spurs, with four of those coming in Premier League games. That means he now matches the club record for the most red cards in the competition.

Cristian Romero Suspension: Should Spurs Consider Selling Him?

The timing of the Cristian Romero suspension is bad news for Tottenham, but it might make rival fans happy.

He has always been a player who divides opinion among Spurs supporters. Since coming to Tottenham, he has shown moments of brilliance at both ends of the pitch, but he has also struggled with discipline.

Even with his red cards, Romero has had a strong season. He has scored six goals and helped set up four more for his teammates.

Recent reports say Romero might leave Tottenham in the summer as the defender has plenty of European suitors after him, and the Cristian Romero suspension fuels the rumours even more.

Cristian Romero Suspension And Transfer Update: La Liga Shows Interest

After Tottenham drew 2-2 with Manchester City in the Premier League, Romero thanked the fans, but it looks like teams in La Liga are interested in him, and he could leave London this summer.

At 27, Romero is in the best period of his career, and his aggressive style of play is unlikely to change as it’s just part of the way he plays and can’t easily be coached out.

Tottenham now face a tough choice as they have to decide if the defender’s contributions on the field are worth the risk of his red cards and the continued Cristian Romero suspension that follow the bookings.

Unless Romero pushes for a move, it seems unlikely that head coach Thomas Frank will let such an important player go.

Cristian Romero Suspension: Spurs Could Face Defensive Challenges

Tottenham could run into problems if both of their main centre-backs leave. Micky van de Ven has often been linked with a move away, and losing him alongside Cristian Romero would leave the team short in defence.

Even if van de Ven stays, his injury history makes him less dependable, and he hasn’t always been fully fit.

Keeping Romero for at least another season would give Spurs more stability, and it would allow the club to plan for new central defenders without putting the backline at serious risk.
