Harry Kane is the undisputed No. 1 among the English strikers. However, if his back-ups, Dominic Solanke and Ollie Watkins, are compared with Welbeck this season, the latter has done more.
Welbeck has scored 13 goals in 33 matches this season, while Solanke has six from 16 for Tottenham and Watkins 10 in 43 for Aston Villa. The current Danny Welbeck form is better than either Solanke’s or Watkins’.
One might argue that Welbeck’s age could be a hindrance when it comes to being named in the World Cup England squad, but, as mentioned already, he is very fit, and his body can certainly take the rigours of international football. It remains to be seen whether Thomas Tuchel decides to give Welbeck a chance.
