Erling Haaland’s Form Points To Repeat of His First Record-Breaking Season at Manchester City

Erling Haaland‘s form is ominous for Manchester City’s opponents at the moment. Barely two months into the season, the 25-year-old Norwegian striker has already reached 15 goals for Manchester City in the ongoing season.

He scored the first goal in the Villarreal vs Manchester City 2-0 win in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, October 21. It was his 11th game of the season, and he is already averaging more than a goal every match. Erling Haaland’s form points to a likely repeat of his numbers in his debut season for the Cityzens.

Erling Haaland’s Form = More Man City Milestones

Haaland now has scored a very impressive 139 goals in 157 matches for Manchester City. He is thus 11 goals short of the milestone of 150 goals for the club, which has only been achieved by Sergio Aguero so far. At the current rate, he should not take more than a month and a half to reach that milestone.

The Norwegian’s prolific run this season reminds one of his debut season in 2022/23 at the Etihad, which saw him score an astounding 52 goals in 53 matches. Haaland won the coveted double of Champions League and Premier League titles for the Cityzens that season.

Pep Guardiola will certainly be hoping that Haaland is able to reproduce the kind of form he exhibited for the team in his debut season in England. Should he be able to do that, Man City will definitely take a significant step towards repeating their exploits of the 2022/23 season.

Erling Haaland’s Form Camouflages City’s Other Attacking Players

Erling Haaland’s form is superb at the moment, but that cannot take away from the fact that the other Manchester City forwards and attacking midfielders are not being able to fire. Bernardo Silva scored their second against Villarreal, but it was only the Portuguese’s first goal of the season.

Phil Foden has shown an improved form after a forgettable last season, but has still managed to score two goals in nine matches so far. Omar Marmoush has been injured mostly and has not scored yet this season, and Rayan Cherki has scored only one goal. Tijjani Reijnders has played well otherwise, but his contribution is only a solitary goal so far.

All the above numbers show that the Cityzens continue to lack another genuine goal-scorer in their squad. In this context, it has to be remembered that Manchester City are now without the services of Kevin De Bruyne.

Haaland has been carrying the team virtually, but his form might take a dip in the course of the season. As long as the Norwegian continues his otherworldly form, Guardiola will not have to worry much about his team’s results.

As a result, Erling Haaland’s form might play a crucial role in deciding the course of the season. Arsenal are looking good this season, but do not have the experience of winning titles in the recent past.

Manchester City might be contending with Liverpool for the Premier League title in the long run, with Arsenal continuing to be in the reckoning. Haaland could very well be the differentiating factor in determining the ultimate winner. After all, his stupendous form has been one of the key components in Manchester City’s campaign this season so far.
