Chelsea, under Todd Boehly, have seen an influx of transfers, with many of those at a fast-moving pace. With Facundo Buonanotte set to join Chelsea, he is set to add talent to the squad on a season-long loan deal.
The Argentine was due to move to Leeds. However, he made the move to West London. But does this transfer make sense in the short term or the long term?
Facundo Buonanotte Set To Join Chelsea on Short-Term Deal
With Facundo Buonanotte set to join Chelsea, Julio Enciso joining Strasbourg, and Evan Ferguson joining Roma, Brighton fans will be satisfied that their young talents are making moves to play football.
Many Brighton fans have noted that Buonanotte possesses a level of talent. His talent is very raw, however, which is much of the reason why the player went on loan to Leicester last season.
Buonanotte had positive spells throughout his time with Leicester. However, he did not feature fully throughout the season, falling out of favour under Ruud Van Nistelrooy as Leicester were relegated from the Premier League.
The Argentine midfielder was able to contribute with five goals and two assists, indicating the talent that may be there at the age of 20. This indicates that he may be a good player in the future, and one that may flourish under the right guidance.
When taking this into account, this suggests that the player may not start frequently in his season-long loan move to Chelsea. The likes of Estevao, Cole Palmer and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens may believe that they should be ahead of Buonanotte in the pecking order. However, Buonanotte may add talent and strive to perform in cup matches.
Long Term
With Facundo Buonanotte set to join Chelsea, Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler has indicated that he would like the player to obtain an adequate level of gametime where he goes.
This may not be the case with this loan deal. However, some may speculate that this may be a deal that allows Chelsea to sign the Argentine for a fairly low fee next summer.
With the consistent influx of players to Stamford Bridge, they have been recruiting players on long-term deals in order to help with compliance with financial regulations.
Although this is mere speculation, this may be a deal that helps with financial regulations, as the Blues will have the ability to call on Buonanotte’s talent for a season, before they pay to recruit him permanently.
Should the Argentine not be recalled by Brighton this season, and Chelsea not play the player often, this indicates that a reasonable fee would be required to recruit him permanently.
If Buonanotte had gone on the flight to join Leeds, as he was rumoured to do, this may not have been the case, should he have flourished with Daniel Farke’s side.
If all goes to plan for Chelsea, they may be able to recruit the player on a long-term deal next summer.
This indicates that they may be able to do what they have done with many other players, and either nurture a good level of talent out of him, or sell the player for a good level of profit, as is represented by the likes of Renato Veiga, Joao Felix and Conor Gallagher.

Conclusion
The benefits to Chelsea of which have been presented in this article, are mere speculation at this current stage. Should it not go to plan, then this may not be a sensible transfer for Chelsea, or for Buonanotte’s career.
However, should this go to plan for Chelsea, Buonanotte will either become a profitable player for the club or provide a wealth of talent to add to the starting XI.
Buonanotte will also be able to link up with former Brighton compatriots Joao Pedro, Marc Cucurella and Moises Caicedo, as well as potentially Julio Enciso, depending on his future moves, following his move from Brighton to Strasbourg.
This transfer is a divisive one from Chelsea. However, the Blues may have added more talent to their side, should this transfer be made permanent.
