Injury, Suspension and AFCON Updates to Note

Mohamed Salah played what might have been his last game for Liverpool when the Reds played Brighton in the previous Gameweek. Amid drama surrounding his future at Liverpool, the Egyptian has headed for international duty in preparation for AFCON 2025. He could be absent for over a month, with the final of the tournament scheduled for January 18. Man City’s Omar Marmoush has also joined the Egypt team.

Manchester United will be without Bryan Mbeumo (Cameron), Amad Diallo (Ivory Coast) and Noussair Mazraoui (Morocco), all of whom have also headed to Morocco for AFCON 2025.

Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gueye will participate in the African tournament for Senegal, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is out due to a hamstring injury.

Cristhian Mosquera (ankle injury) and Ben White (hamstring injury) have joined Arsenal’s injury list, and will be unavailable for picking in Gameweek 17.

Cameroon international Carlos Baleba has left Brighton for Morocco, while Lewis Dunk will be unavailable this weekend as he serves his suspension.

Manchester City’s Rayan Ait-Nouri has headed to the Algerian national team, while Brentford’s Reinildo Mandava has joined the Mozambique national team.

Tino Livramento is carrying a knee injury, ruling him out for Newcastle’s fixture against Chelsea.

Must-Have FPL Picks

Man City face a West Ham side that they are more than capable of beating. FPL managers should consider Phil Foden (£8.8m), Erling Haaland (£15.0m), Ruben Dias (£5.7m) and Rayan Cherki (£6.5m) for their Fantasy Football Matchweek 17 squads.

League leaders Arsenal play Everton, and while this may not be a walk in the park for the Gunners, Bukayo Saka (£10.3m), Declan Rice (£7.1m) may prove their worth.

Newcastle vs Chelsea promises to be a tight fixture, especially with St. James Park as a venue. Chelsea’s Pedro Neto (£7.3m) and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes (£7.0m) stand as safe options from this fixture.

Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes (£9.3m), Matheus Cunha (£7.9m) Mason Mount (£5.9m) are other players to consider, despite the Red Devils’ difficult fixture against Aston Villa. As for Villa, Morgan Rogers (£7.1m) is very likely to continue his strong form.

Bournemouth are facing Burnley, making Antoine Semenyo (£7.6m) an obvious FPL pick. Meanwhile, with Crystal Palace travelling to Leeds, Marc Guehi (£7.6m) may be a solid option in defence.
