Four Players Manchester United Need To Sell This Summer

Manchester United finished the season in the 14th position in the Premier League table.

The Red Devils thus secured their lowest-ever finish in the league, along with missing out on European football next season, having lost in the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.

However, there was a silver lining in the way they beat Aston Villa, a side that reached the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, 2-0 in their last match of the season.

Still, there is no doubt about the fact that they need reinforcements in their squad next season.

We will take a look at five players Manchester United need to sell this summer, excluding players who are already out on loan: Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho.

1. Andre Onana

Andre Onana was signed by Erik ten Hag in 2023 and has committed a lot of errors during his stint at Old Trafford. It is not proper for a custodian at a top club to be that error-prone.

His contract runs until 2028, but it is almost certain that he will not see it through.

United might pitch Altay Bayindir as their first-choice goalkeeper next season or might go for a new goalkeeper as well.

2. Diogo Dalot

Diogo Dalot has been decent at times, but has not yet managed to make himself indispensable for the team despite spending seven seasons and making 210 appearances for the club.

Dalot’s contract runs until 2028, but with the emergence of Noussair Mazraoui as a very good option as the right wing-back, he is no longer assured of a place in the starting XI.

He can be decent defensively, but his crossing ability needs improvement.

Ruben Amorim’s system with a back-three gives a great emphasis on having quality wing-backs. Hence, Dalot might find himself leaving the club this summer.

3. Mason Mount

Make no mistake about it, Mason Mount has looked promising and energetic with his pressing and passing high up the pitch in the recent matches.

However, four goals in 47 matches in two injury-ridden seasons at Manchester United does not do his price tag of 65 million GBP any justice.

Mount can be a good option in the midfield, but if the team sticks to playing with a 3-4-3 formation, he will have to play as a left-winger in it.

And, he is no left-winger. Mount’s contract expires in 2028, but it might be difficult for him to last until then at Manchester United.

4. Rasmus Hojlund

Rasmus Hojlund is still very young at 22 and is quite a physical specimen.

However, he has scored 10 goals in 52 matches for United this season, which is nowhere near good enough. He has got a lot of chances as the No. 9, but failed to capitalize on them.

With strikers like Bryan Mbeumo and Liam Delap reportedly in talks with United, the Red Devils might be thinking of offloading Hojlund, who has scored only 26 goals in nearly 100 appearances for the club.

Then, there are players like Joshua Zirkzee, Alejandro Garnacho and Harry Maguire, who might find it difficult to sustain their stay at the club as well.

It remains to be seen how many players Manchester United will be able to offload this summer.
