The Harry Kane No. 10 role at Bayern Munich became the main talking point after their 5-1 UEFA Champions League win over Pafos on Tuesday, September 30, with the England captain deployed in a deeper role behind Nicolas Jackson. Kane still scored a brace in the match to take his tally to 102 goals in 105 matches for the Bavarians.
The English captain has been in sublime form ever since he joined Bayern. He keeps scoring goals for fun at the moment and remains in contention for the European Golden Shoe, which he also won in the 2023/24 season.
Harry Kane No. 10 Role at Bayern Munich: Is It Sustainable?
A new Harry Kane No. 10 role at Bayern Munich was unveiled in the match against Pafos. Kane started deeper, with Bayern’s new acquisition, Nicolas Jackson, playing as the centre-forward. Jackson also managed to find the back of the net, thereby scoring his first goal for Bayern.
It has long been debated whether Kane’s ability on the ball is good enough for a team to play him as a playmaker. Bayern took a bold step in this regard, although Kane has played as the No. 10 for the English national team previously.
He is by no means a tap-in merchant and has the ability to build up moves from the middle third as well. His versatility makes him one of the most resourceful centre-forwards in world football.
Kane scored one of his two goals with a penalty, but his second goal was every attacking midfielder’s delight. He dribbled past a few opposition players before slotting the ball past the opposition goalkeeper to justify the faith Vincent Kompany had put in him. Further, Nicolas Jackson also scored to justify Bayern’s decision to go with both him and Kane in the starting XI.
Bayern have been missing their regular No. 10, Jamal Musiala, owing to an injury for quite some time now. Hence, switching Kane to a new role might help them a great deal, especially against weaker opposition.

Bayern Will Have To Be on Guard Against Stronger Teams
Kane does not offer enough defensively as a midfielder. Hence, should Bayern go into a big match with both him and Jackson in the playing XI, the decision might backfire.
Kompany will probably not take that risk against teams that can put pressure on his side.
Musiala’s return to action will obviate the need to do that. However, until that happens, Bayern could very well go on to play with both Kane and Jackson in the side.
Harry Kane Champions League Impact Will Define Bayern’s Season
The Bavarians will set their eyes on the Champions League title that they have not won since 2020. Kane won the Bundesliga title last season with the club, but that is not often considered a remarkable achievement for Bayern, as the club is so used to winning it.
In such a scenario, Kane should look to scale new heights as a player. The challenge of playing as a No. 10 should make him an even better player. However, as already mentioned, the inability to win the Champions League will be counted as a shortcoming in the end.
Ultimately, Harry Kane’s Champions League impact will determine how his Bayern spell is remembered. If the Harry Kane No. 10 role at Bayern Munich proves effective on the biggest stage and it could elevate both the player and the club to new heights.
