Lately Barcelona‘s attacking numbers have been low and below the expectations of the fans. The departure of both Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann in the same transfer window has seen Barcelona face serious problems in front of goal but with rumours circulating of a transfer, just how Ferran Torres can help Barcelona is considered.

How Ferran Torres Can Help Barcelona

Standards

Twenty-one-year-old Ferran Torres has performed up to standards in the last season. His 13 goals ( four of which came in the Champions League)  and three assists with Manchester City helped them secure the Premier League title and achieve a spot in the Champions League final. He played 24 Premier League games last season making him a vital piece in Pep Guardiola’s side. His performances led to the Spain national team coach Luis Enrique to call him up for the first team squad with Torres’ main highlight being  the hat-trick he scored against Germany in the Nations League.

Torres became one of Enrique’s main men in Euro 2021 where he managed to play in all of the games scoring two and assisting one. This season, his start has been a bit slow due to suffering an injury but this didn’t stop Spanish giants Barcelona from showing interest in the player. His numbers for a winger quite impressive. He is a player who can play in multiple positions in the final third.

Another potential factor in any move for Torres is that he is from Catalonia which is the province of which Barcelona is the capital city and therefore settling in wouldn’t be an issue.

Could Torres Solve Barcelona’s Attacking Issues

Messi and Griezmann, who both left this Summer had contributed to 50 or so goals last season for Barcelona. Messi alone scored 30 goals in La Liga last season making him end the season as top scorer. Barcelona’s mistake was not buying a striker which can give them 20-25 goals a season easily. They signed Memphis Depay, however till now he has not performed up to standards in addition to him lacking the technique of a proper striker. Ferran Torres can come in the squad and possibly try to solve this issue. Although he isn’t a striker, but his attacking and goal scoring sense is definitely what Barcelona need at this moment.
