Jakub Kiwior’s Arsenal Future in Doubt Amid European Transfer Interest

Polish international Jakub Kiwior has made 68 appearances for Arsenal since signing from Spezia in 2023.

Since Andrea Berta was appointed Arsenal’s new director of football, the Gunners have been active in the transfer window.

This has included six signings, including Victor Gyokeres from Sporting CP for £64 million and Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for around £60 million.

With their main transfer targets now signed, Arsenal appear to be focusing on outgoings.

The club has already parted ways with several players, such as Nuno Tavares, Marquinhos, Jorginho and Kieran Tierney. On top of this, players such as Fábio Vieira, Reiss Nelson and Albert Sambi Lokonga have been linked with moves away from the Premier League title contenders.

Albeit, one player that has gained interest across Europe despite the club’s unwillingness to sell is Polish international Jakub Kiwior.

Kiwior was signed by Mikel Arteta’s side back in January 2023, from then Serie A side Spezia. Before his transfer, Kiwior had played for Poland in the World Cup and had been a regular starter for Spezia.

Since his signing, he has played 68 matches for Arsenal, scoring three goals in the process. 30 of those appearances came last season, in which 17 came in the Premier League, with the player also making ten appearances in the UEFA Champions League, where the Gunners reached the semi-finals.

Kiwior has played the full match in Arsenal’s last 12 matches in all competitions, with the last time he failed to start for the club coming against Chelsea on March 16, where Arsenal beat their London rivals 1-0 at home.

That being said, the player may be looking elsewhere to be certain of more game time, despite the club’s reluctance to let him go.

Jakub Kiwior Transfer Links

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Kiwior’s situation last season is not confirmed as of yet, with multiple clubs bidding for the Arsenal centre-back.

Mikel Arteta’s side has already rejected one bid for the centre-back, which had come from a Portuguese club, which has been widely speculated to be FC Porto.

Though the rejection of Porto’s transfer request was down to a difference in transfer fees, which has reportedly forced FC Porto to cool their interests, as the Liga Portugal side has had many issues as of late regarding their finances.

AC Milan had also been longtime admirers of Kiwior, with it being rumoured that the Italian giants might make another approach for the player this summer.

The club are bracing for more late bids this transfer window, as Arsenal have been linked to signing Rennes’ Jeremy Jacquet should a high enough offer entice the North London side.

Why Would Kiwior Want To Leave Arsenal?

As stated above, game time would be a concern for the Polish international.

With the 2026 World Cup less than a year away, should his nation qualify, the centre-back would want to make sure he is in the best position possible to start for Poland, who have appointed a new manager in Jan Urban just two months ago.

Despite starting every match for Arsenal during the last two months of the season, this was mostly due to Gabriel picking up an injury in a 2-1 home win against Fulham in the Premier League.

Moreover, with Riccardo Calafiori returning from injury and the Gunners signing 21-year-old Cristhian Mosquera, his position as a starter is in doubt.

Being on the bench for the Gunners may not be the best in terms of a guarantee for starting for his national team. Therefore, it may be the case that the player, who has been a good player for the club, may want to push for a transfer should the right offer come in.
