Why Manchester United Young Players Are Vital to Their Success

Amad Diallo scored a wonderful hat-trick to guide Manchester United to a 3-1 victory over Southampton in a Premier League last Thursday, January 16.

As United moved into the 12th place in the Premier League table with 26 points from 21 matches, the form of Amad came to the fore once again, as he has now scored nine goals in 30 matches this season.

With Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo also in the team, Manchester United have a triumvirate of exciting youngsters, who can provide a solid fulcrum to their squad for the upcoming years.

Amad, Garnacho and Mainoo are 22, 20 and 19, respectively, which means that each of them should have a long career ahead of them.

Young Players Driving Manchester United Attack

The Red Devils depend a lot on those young players in their team.

Amad has probably been their best player in the current season. Mainoo has grown in stature during the last year and a half and Garnacho seems to be the answer to Marcus Rashford’s absence.

Mainoo has formed a very effective double-pivot with Manuel Ugarte and they have managed to keep both Casemiro and Christian Eriksen out of the team. Both Casemiro and Eriksen have left their best days behind them and it is the likes of Mainoo, who should be providing impetus to the Red Devils’ midfield.

Garnacho and Amad’s runs down the left and right flanks, respectively, have made Manchester United a potent team from counter-attacks. It allows them to sit deep with five defenders in a 5-4-1 formation while defending.

Both of them are quite fast and adept at providing crosses from the flanks. Amad’s finishing skills are probably slightly better than Garnacho’s, which is reflected in his slightly superior goal-scoring record this season.

Red Devils Must Hold On to Their Future Stars

United have already reportedly received an offer of 59 million GBP for Garnacho from Napoli. Manchester United probably have rejected the offer already.

Mainoo also seems to be on the radar of a few clubs at the moment. Chelsea seem to be interested in the young English midfielder.

Manchester United have made a few regrettable signings over the past few years, which have reduced their efficiency as a team. They might think of selling a few players to make up for some of that cash. However, those transactions should not be happening at the cost of the performance of the team.

The Red Devils seem to have just turned a corner under Ruben Amorim, with commendable results against Liverpool and Arsenal in the recent past. The way they fought to earn a win against Southampton was also heartening for their supporters.

At such a crucial juncture, it seems pretty obvious that Manchester United cannot afford to lose key youngsters. Amorim should definitely not be in favour of parting ways with any of Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.

It remains to be seen whether the club decides against selling any of those players in the near future. It seems to be firmly in the club’s interest to keep those players in the squad at the moment.
