A trip to Turin for Pochettino’s men

Tottenham look to extend their great run of form as Spurs face Juventus in the Champions League round of 16 in Turin on Tuesday.

High-Flying Spurs

The fixtures leading up to this important Champions League game could have a major impact on Spurs confidence, but how that has changed. The North London club have had a busy old week facing the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal. Many rival fans were expecting Tottenham to drop six points, but they now sit in 4th, seven points clear of their arch-rivals, Arsenal. Mauricio Pochettino’s men gain seven points out of nine after beating United and The Gunners at Wembley. Spurs faced Newport County in an FA Cup replay after drawing 1-1 against the Welsh side. However, there was no cup magic as Spurs eased past the Welsh Side with a comfortable 2-0 victory.

Tough Turin

The Serie A Champions have had a slow start to the season but are now looking back to their best. Juventus sit second, only one point behind League Leaders Napoli. The old lady have won eight consecutive games and have not lost a league match since mid-November. The Italian side have a major goalscoring threat after scoring 61 goals so far this season and only conceding 17 goals. Turin could be a tough place for Tottenham to come and play football with Juventus only letting five goals past their rustless defence at home.

Team News

Spurs have a fully fit squad going into the first leg of the match. However, the major news coming for Premier League side is that Toby Alderwiereld has been left home. This has caused a lot of rumours that he might be unhappy but some reports state that he is working on his fitness.

Juventus, on the other hand, face a few injuries concerns. Star player Paulo Dybala is expected to miss the first leg along with Blaise Matuidi and winger Juan Cuadrado. Douglas Costa is back in contention to face Tottenham having missed their last game.

Juventus vs Tottenham

These two European giants are set to meet a third time in less than three years but have never met in a competitive game.

Spurs faced Juventus in Pre-Season of 2016 in Australia, losing 2-1 to the Italians. Also, the Serie A champions have already lost at Wembley to Spurs after a Harry Kane header saw them win 2-0 at the end of 2017 Pre-Season.

Prediction

The Premier League side face a tough test against Juventus in Turin. Getting an away goal could be crucial for Spurs to progress as Wembley could be a major advantage to Tottenham.
