Paris Saint-Germain has sacked their manager Thomas Tuchel according to football insider Fabrizio Romano.
Mauricio Pochettino is the leading candidate to become the next manager of the French club.
It was exactly a year ago when the former Tottenham Hotspur boss left his throne in North London. Since then, the Argentinian has been on the sidelines and has been waiting for the right challenge to arrive. It seems as though the challenge at PSG can’t be turned down.
Mauricio Pochettino Favourite for Paris Saint-Germain Job
Breaking Story
With reports circulating that Thomas Tuchel has been relieved of his duties as manager of PSG, the German manager becomes another casualty in the eyes of the Parisians. The German manager won 2 French league titles, including a domestic treble last season. He also guided the club to their first-ever Champions League final last season.
The start to this season has been less than satisfactory as the French giants almost exited the Champions League in the group stage. Their league campaign hasn’t lived up to the standards set before, although they are only a point behind the league leaders, Lyon.
The Frustration
The frustration of the French club is well noted as they have struggled to claim the elusive title of being the Champions of Europe, on many occasions. Their enormous spending over the years has further exacerbated the situation.
A Familiar Foe
The departure of the former Borussia Dortmund coach has led to Pochettino becoming odds on favourite to become the new manager beating Thiago Motta to the mantle, who had recently been overlooked for the Barcelona job. The former Espanyol coach is no stranger to the club as he once played in Paris. His two-year spell resulted in an Intertoto Cup and a runners-up medal for reaching the Coupe de France final. As he was one of the more prominent figures at the club at the time, this appointment would be that of a smart one, given his ability to work with a tight budget while achieving the targets set.
Pochettino’s Patience Pays Off
In short, this is a sensible appointment as it could help the club get through the pandemic without spending much. As a bonus, the former Southampton boss is a prominent face at the club and could be more than pleased with a team that possesses incredibly gifted players, so only time will tell if Mauricio Pochettino will become the manager of the Paris Saint-Germain.
