Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has named the clubs he thinks will vie for the league title next season. The Citizens remain the only team who still have a mathematical chance of catching up with Liverpool. However, the 49-year-old has seemingly already set his sights on the next season.
The seven
Apart from his own team, Guardiola reckons Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal and Leicester all have a fair chance of challenging for the 2020-21 Premier League title.
Pep’s remarks
In an interview with The Manchester Evening News, he said, “I think every season the opponents get stronger. Liverpool will remain the strong team they are, we are seeing how Chelsea are investing in this transfer market.”
“We saw in the last period how Man United made a step forward. Tottenham are going to recover a lot of injured players, with Son, Harry Kane, and other players, and with an experienced manager like [Jose] Mourinho they are always going to be strong.”
“Arsenal with more time with Mikel [Arteta] is going to happen – and Leicester you know.”
Blues on the move
Chelsea have made their intentions clear. They have already signed winger Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and striker Timo Werner from RB Leipzig. Plus the Blues are also looking to add Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz and Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell to their ranks.
Reds and Red Devils raring to go
The Reds, who are just five points away from a first league title in three decades are unlikely to spend big in the summer. However, they seem to already possess all the pieces of the jigsaw.
United are unbeaten in their last 13 matches in all competitions. And Leicester look primed to book themselves a UEFA Champions League berth.
The Gunners and Spurs haven’t had the best of seasons, though the former seem to be picking things up. Pep Guardiola is not ready to rule them out as title contenders for next season.
