Man City vs Leeds 3-2: Phil Foden’s Brace Keeps Manchester City in Premier League Title Race

Phil Foden’s brace won the Man City vs Leeds United Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium for the Cityzens on Saturday, November 29. Manchester City won the match 3-2 with Josko Gvardiol scoring the other goal.

The win kept Manchester City in second place with 25 points from 13 matches. Arsenal are still comfortably ahead of them, but collecting three points from the match against Leeds United was crucial for City in the Premier League title race.

Phil Foden’s Brace Came at a Proper Time

Man City vs Leeds was a match that saw the Cityzens play a plethora of crosses into the opposition penalty box. One such cross was met by Foden for Manchester City to put the home side ahead. Matheus Nunes darted into the box from the right-back’s position before delivering the cross to Foden.

The 25-year-old English midfielder then scored in injury time, when it started looking like Leeds would be able to sneak out with a draw. Foden now has six goals in 17 matches for the Cityzens this season. After a forgettable 2024/25 season, the Englishman is slowly coming back to his best.

The second goal he scored on Saturday showed his undeniable class as a player. He dribbled past a couple of opposition defenders in tight spaces and took a shot with his left foot that gave the Leeds goalkeeper no chance.

Phil Foden’s brace thus won the match for the home side, which exhibited an ability to launch into attacks consistently. Jeremy Doku had yet another good match on the left flank. Bernardo Silva, who started as the right-winger, kept falling back to allow Nunes the opportunity to surge forward.

Overall, it was a good performance from Manchester City. However, the way they allowed Leeds United to come back into the match must keep Pep Guardiola worried.

Foden’s Form Necessary for Manchester City To Perform Well

Foden’s form is essential for Manchester City to do well. Erling Haaland has been in sublime touch and scored 19 goals this season already. However, the Cityzens need at least one more attacking player to step up, and Guardiola will hope that Foden is that player.

Foden has played in more than 300 matches for Manchester City and scored 106 goals in his very successful career so far. At 25, he is supposed to be entering his prime as a player. It is also time for him to take responsibility as a senior player in the team.

Following their 3-2 win in the Man City vs Leeds game, the Cityzens will take on Fulham and Sunderland in their next two matches in the Premier League. Then they will face Real Madrid in an important match in the UEFA Champions League.

In such a scenario, Foden’s form will continue to be crucial for City. The young Englishman will have to play his part to ensure that his team does not drop too many points to keep the pressure on Arsenal and Chelsea.

As of now, it looks like a three-horse race for the Premier League title. For Manchester City to firmly be in it, Foden’s form will be crucial. Phil Foden’s brace against Sunderland once again exhibited just how crucial his contribution is going to be.
