Who has been the Premier League signing of the season so far? There are not too many candidates for the title, as some of the new signings have flattered to deceive so far. The likes of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak have broken the record with regard to the transfer-fee, but have not quite lived up to expectations on the pitch.
Goalkeepers Gianluigi Donnarumma and Senne Lammens have been decent for their respective Manchester clubs, City and United. Tijjani Reijnders has given a good account of himself for the Citizens, while Jeremie Frimpong has started to deliver for Liverpool. However, as of now, the choice for the Premier League signing of the season narrows down to the three players. Let us have a look at them:
Who Has Been the Signing of the Season?
#3. Bryan Mbeumo
Mbeumo was signed by Manchester United from Brentford and the 26-year-old Cameroonian has been quite successful for his new club so far. He has played on the right side behind the striker in United’s 3-4-2-1 formation and scored seven goals and registered an assist in 17 matches for them so far.
Mbeumo has a lethal left foot and the ability to finish into the far corner of the net with it. He is also tireless in his approach and a genuine team player. All of that has cemented his place in the starting XI for Ruben Amorim’s team. The Cameroonian is playing at AFCON at the moment, and his club is missing him to a large extent. He is a genuine candidate for the signing of the season.

#2. Rayan Cherki
Manchester City signed Cherki from Lyon before the start of the season and have not regretted the decision so far. Cherki came in to primarily replace Kevin De Bruyne, which was definitely not an easy task.
However, as of now, Pep Guardiola remains vindicated with the signing of the 22-year-old Frenchman. Cherki has scored five goals and registered eight assists in 19 matches for the Citizens so far, impressing one and all with his ball-skills and passing. No man has had more assists this season.
He has combined really well with Phil Foden and has grown in stature almost with every passing week. The way Cherki glides through with the ball on his feet is worth watching. Midway through the season, he remains a genuine contender for the signing of the season.
#1. Hugo Ekitike
Ekitike pretty much slipped under the radar at the start of the season, as his signing by Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt was overshadowed by those of Wirtz and Isak, both amounting to more than £100 million.
However, since the season started, the 23-year-old Frenchman has emerged as the star player for the Reds. Ekitike has scored 11 goals and registered three assists in 25 matches so far.
He has mainly played as the No. 9 because of Isak’s absence either owing to bad form or injury. The Frenchman has grabbed the opportunities those came his way with both hands and has managed to stake a claim for a place in France’s World Cup squad for the next year’s tournament.
Ekitike might, therefore, be called the forerunner for the signing of the season as of now/
