PSG’s Relentless Passing Football Is a Treat To Watch as They Aim for 2025 CWC Final

PSG beat Bayern Munich 2-0 in the quarter-final of the Club World Cup on Saturday, July 5, in a match that had enough bad blood for a tournament that is still considered preparation for the upcoming season by many.

There were two red cards served to the Paris Saint-Germain players, and Jamal Musiala suffered a serious injury that could jeopardise his upcoming season for Bayern.

Still, Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele scored for the Parisian club to secure their victory in the end.

Breathtaking Football

Luis Enrique’s PSG showed the kind of brilliant football it played in the 5-0 annihilation of Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final a month ago.

They displayed almost the same brand of football with breathtaking speed and accurate passing against Bayern.

PSG are one of the few teams that can press and pass with the same relentless intensity throughout a match.

They are also one of the few teams in the world that can press high and play counter-attacking football at the same time with equal adeptness.

Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia attacked through the inside channels, and Joao Neves and Vitinha kept playing their forward passes with admirable speed and accuracy.

In  comparison, Bayern typically took more time to build up and relied on crosses into the box.

There were a few quality deliveries into the box, including Kingsley Coman’s exceptional one to Harry Kane that the latter failed to convert with a header.

Bayern managed to put the ball into the net twice, but on both occasions the flag was raised for offside.

There were occasional attacks by Bayern Munich, but the injury to Musiala weakened their attack considerably.

PSG took advantage of that and scored two goals to seal the fate of the match.

The Parisians’ second goal, which came through one of their brisk counter-attacks, saw right-back Achraf Hakimi find his way past three Bayern players and then play a pass to Dembele that the latter finished wonderfully.

PSG vs Real Madrid

PSG will face Spanish giants Real Madrid in the semi-finals, who beat Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in the other quarterfinal.

Real are almost always the favourite in any match they play in, and hence, the job will not be easy for Luis Enrique’s side.

However, at the moment, no team in Europe is playing better football than the treble winners from France.

PSG should go into the match against Real as the favourites, and it should prove to be an acid test for the Real Madrid defence to stop the onslaught of attacks by the French side.

The likes of Desire Doue and Fabian Ruiz, who are on the radar of some other clubs, will get another opportunity to show their class against Real Madrid.

It is no overstatement to say that the team that wins the semifinal will take a significant step towards winning the tournament.

It now remains to be seen whether PSG manage to add another title to their name.
