Radamel Falcao, Juan Cuadrado Send Poland Packing after Convicining 3-0 Victory
Radamel Falcao, Juan Cuadrado and Yerry Mina send Poland home as Colombia eye the round of 16. The South American side played some superb football as they opened up a weak Poland defence.
Yerry Mina Makes the Most of Set-Pieces
Yerry Mina, newly signed for Barcelona, opened the scoring for Colombia with a brilliant set-piece. James Rodriguez played a short pass to Juan Cuadrado as Rodriguez gets the ball back. He then plays a lovely dinked ball into the box as Yerry Mina headed from six yards out.
The Colombian defender has come under a lot of criticism after joining Spanish giants Barcelona. Mina failed to earn game time after his move in January but his goal today could have sent Colombia through.
Radamel Falcao Still World Class at 32
As Poland chased the game, their backline was exposed once again this tournament. On the other side, Colombia played some superb football to open up the Polish defence.
As Juan Qunitero plays a lovely ball to Falcao as the Poland Keeper closes in but the Colombian puts it past Szczesny. The 32-yard-old became Colombia’s top-goalscorer in the qualifiers.
He also enjoyed a fantastic campaign once again in France after scoring 18 goals in Ligue 1 as he helped Monaco finish second. But at the age of 32, you fear it might be his last tournament so Falcao needs to join in the act with some brilliant football.
Juan Cuadrado Sends The Poles Packing
A frustrated Poland side was being ripped into pieces as Juan Cuadrado made it three and put the game to bed. James Rodriguez played a lovely through ball to Juan Cuadrado who only had to beat the Polish Keeper.
The Chelsea reject opened his body and slotted it past the Juventus ‘keeper with ease. The Colombian winger had another good season with Juventus as he provided eight assists and five goals.
However, Cuadrado struggled in the opening game and was taken off in the first half of the defeat to Japan.
Poland is Going to Home, England v Colombia Potential Round of 16
Many thought before this tournament would of predicted Poland to top this group but now are going home. Robert Lewandoski would have felt most disappointed after failing to make an impact for the Poles.
However, the injury to their main centre-back and one of the more experienced defenders in the world, Kamil Gilik, was certainly a factor. The figure of Gilik in the back four was definitely missed and was shown in the first two games.
If results go the right way we could see an England v Colombia round of 16 tie. Obviously, this depends on if England beat Belgium or draw. That would be quite a game with a lot of goals.
