Real Madrid vs Man City 1-2: Real Madrid Form Continues To Increase Pressure on Xabi Alonso

The current Real Madrid form is worrying, as they lost to Manchester City at Santiago Bernabeu in a UEFA Champions League match, adding to the pressure already on their manager, Xabi Alonso. The Cityzens won the Real Madrid vs Man City match 2-1 to overtake Real in the league table.

Real Madrid are currently in seventh position in the Champions League table. However, their recent form under Alonso is hardly desirable. The Real Madrid form has also highlighted the souring of Alonso’s relationship with his players.

Real Madrid Form

The Real Madrid form has been bad for a while now. Los Blancos have won only two of their last eight matches and have lost in three. Arch-rivals Barcelona have opened up a four-point lead over them in La Liga.

The injury problems have been piling up as well. Injuries to Eder Militao, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kylian Mbappe, Dani Carvajal and Eduardo Camavinga meant that Real could not field their best possible XI against Manchester City.

Federico Valverde is now being forced to play as the right-back, and a fringe player like Dani Ceballos has been playing as a holding midfielder. To make matters worse, Vinicius Junior, the star left-winger, has scored only five goals in 21 matches this season so far.
Rodrygo scored only his first goal of the season against Manchester City.

He has had to play 18 matches to do that. Mbappe has been in fantastic form, scoring 25 goals already, but he cannot drag the team alone. Arda Guler, the youngster from Turkey, has been given a lot of opportunities, but he has only been able to score three goals in 21 matches so far.

In addition to that, Alonso’s tendency to micro-manage things has not been accepted gladly by the players. Some of the players are evidently at crossroads with the manager. Alonso is wise enough to know that managing Bayer Leverkusen, with whom he won the Bundesliga title undefeated, and managing Real Madrid are not the same.

Alonso should know that he cannot afford to lose the dressing room if he is to win things with Real Madrid. The Spaniard is a former Real Madrid player himself and knows the situation that prevails at such a big club all too well.

Crucial Fixtures Ahead

Real Madrid form must improve before they take on Monaco and Benfica in January in the Champions League. They have a match coming up against city-rivals Atletico Madrid in the Supercopa de España next month as well.

With matches of such importance coming up, Xabi Alonso should look at avenues to improve the Real Madrid form. He has to improve his relationship with the players first. Otherwise, the pressure on him will intensify, and he is in danger of losing his job.

Now, it remains to be seen whether the 15-time European champions and the most successful club in the world can get their act together. For the sake of Alonso, the supporters will hope that the turnaround happens soon and brings their La Liga and Champions League campaigns this season back on track.
