Real Madrid Desperate for Redemption: La Liga Title Push Becomes a Must After UCL Exit

Real Madrid lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final at Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, April 16.

Real had earlier lost 0-3 to the Gunners in the first leg last week, which means they lost in both their legs against the Gunners.

Winning the Champions League has become a regular occurrence for Los Blancos, as they have won the tournament a record 15 times. Therefore, the inability to win it this time around will not be much of a blow to them.

Real Madrid Will Set Their Eyes on La Liga and the Copa del Rey

Carlo Ancelotti’s men will want to win the domestic double this season, as they no longer have the Champions League to worry about. Real will play arch-rivals Barcelona in the final of the Copa del Rey later this month.

However, Los Blancos trail Barcelona by four points in the La Liga table after 31 rounds of matches.

With seven matches to go, the battle for the La Liga title should go down to the wire this time around.

Barcelona have qualified for the last four of the Champions League, which means that they will need to shift their focus elsewhere at times.

That should provide Real Madrid with an opportunity to go for the domestic double.

For Real, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior have scored 33 and 21 goals, respectively, this season. This makes them one of the most potent attacks in the world.

However, with the impending departure of Luka Modric, their midfield is going to require a bit of a rebuilding.

Federico Valverde is one of the most versatile players in the world, but he will need some more experience to evolve into a world-class player in the midfield.

Real, however, have two fantastic defensive players in Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni, who should serve the club for a long time.

Real will face Athletic Club and Getafe in their next two La Liga matches this month. They cannot afford any more slip-ups if they are to overtake Barcelona.

The Catalans are the favourites to win the league title at the moment, but will take a reversal on their part in only a solitary match to change the scenario altogether.

Still, at the moment, Hansi Flick remains the favourite to win the La Liga title in his debut season in Spain as a manager.
