Securing Marc Guehi Will Be a Big Success for Liverpool

24-year-old Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi is likely to join Premier League champions, Liverpool, as the Reds seem to be certain of securing yet another important signing.

Arne Slot’s men have already signed Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong and are the frontrunners to sign left-back Milos Kerkez as well.

Ibrahima Konate, the French centre-back who has been with Liverpool for the last four seasons and won the Premier League title with them last season as well, is reportedly not happy with the amount offered to him for the renewal of his contract. Hence, the door to Liverpool might open for Guehi eventually.

Marc Guehi’s Time at Crystal Palace

Guehi has registered 155 appearances for Crystal Palace in his four seasons with them and also won the FA Cup with them last season.

Moreover, he also made himself a regular at the international level with the Three Lions.

Guehi was one of England’s best players at the European Championship in Germany last year. He has earned 23 caps for England so far.

Guehi is not a very big man, but his anticipation and understanding of the situations on a football pitch make him a very reliable option to have in a team’s defence.

Liverpool already have the towering Virgil van Dijk in their defence, who has been among the best defenders in the world for the past decade or so.

However, at 33, Van Dijk probably has only a couple of years left at the top.

Therefore, the Reds will have to search for long-term replacements and signing Guehi should be a very good step in that direction.

Liverpool’s Offer

Liverpool are reportedly offering an amount close to £50 million to sign Guehi.

As of now, there are not too many other suitors for him among the Premier League clubs. Guehi’s contract with Palace expires in June 2026, which means that Palace will not get any value for him should they allow him lto eave next summer.

Therefore, if Liverpool’s offer is good, which it reportedly is, Palace should not have much problem in letting him leave.

Even if Konate decides to stay at Anfield, it should be a profitable move for Liverpool, as Joe Gomez might leave the club this summer.

Liverpool have not had a regular English centre-back since Jamie Carragher, as Gomez has often played as a right-back for them only which means that signing Guehi will be a welcome move for them.

Moreover, Guehi should be able to play top-flight football for at least another decade, which makes him a long-term prospect as well.

Liverpool have been aggressive in the transfer market this summer after Slot decided not to buy any player last season.

They are also reportedly chasing Alexander Isak, which means that the Reds are desperate to plug all the gaps in their squad in a bid to defend their Premier League crown.

It, however, remains to be seen whether they are able to ensure Guehi’s signing and thereby take a significant step towards bolstering their defensive line-up.
